Recognition is a rare experience for Vanth.
When he walks the streets of Spirale, its inhabitants often lack a face. They blend into one big and blurry mass, a bit like viewing them while crossing one's eyes, indistinct and impossible to pick apart. Vanth never really tries to focus and commit any of them to memory. He would forget them no sooner than they disappeared from his sight, fallen into one of the pits of his mind like so many others that were far more important. Failed recognition is more troubling to him than no recognition at all, so it's not an effort he tries to make.
But that's what makes this stranger so sharp and distressing.
He sees her and all her details with such clarity that it's stopped him in his tracks. And the worst part is that he feels as though he should know her, that they've met before, and yet, no memory of it comes to mind.
Eventually, she notices him, too. Vanth opens his mouth, but with no immediate thought of what to say, it hangs.
❝ Ah, ❞ escapes a caught and guilty sound, before he realizes that he should start with what he's not gaping at. ❝ I'm not, uh, staring at your wings. ❞
Vanth is too distracted with this weird feeling to even wince. They look pretty gnarly, but really, they're not what he's looking at.
❝ I swear. It's just... I dunno, have we met somewhere? ❞
@veritasrequiem — this is the weirdest sense of deja vu.
