Pictures From Dublin Castle!

So it took a year almost, but here are some pictures from my trip to Dublin for my honeymoon last year.  

These pictures are from the tour at Dublin Castle;  The top two pictures, of the painting, is a reconstruction of Dublin as it would have looked in the era of ATOV; note the wooden streets and individual plots of land; the king’s portion is that larger cleared area and larger hut at the top center.

The next picture, with the tour guide standing over that pile of rocks and the pile itself?  That’s the original Norse tidal barrier, designed to keep the river shoreline from being eroded away by the tides.  They recycled something like 99% of it, but this portion, underneath the castle, was left alone, and they were actually able to do chemical analysis of the mortar, which included sand, lime, human hair, egg whites, and ox blood.  But it’s held together for literally over a thousand years, so... I’m not going to make criticisms.  

The bottom pictures are of the castle gardens, on the site of the original Dubh Linn--the Black Pool, the natural harbor off of the side river that originally made the Norse settle in Dublin in the first place.  

I have more pictures from elsewhere in Dublin that I’ll be posting soon, probably in defined sets (like some of the Norse-era coins).
