Homemade Pride Parade 2020!
[Image description: A silhouette of a roof of a house. The top of the chimney is colored with the trans pride flag colors, and a rainbow is emerging from the chimney into a blue sky. Under the roof there is a window with the colors of the asexual flag. Text beside the house reads “Homemade Pride Parade: June 2020.”]
Homemade Pride Parade is a way to celebrate Pride from inside! Many Pride events this year have been cancelled due to social distancing measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t other ways to observe Pride Month. The goal of this project is to assemble a virtual parade in the form of posts that celebrate and honor the LGBTQ+ community. Want to join the parade? Make a Pride-themed post on your blog using the tag “#Homemade Pride Parade” or send a post through our submit box during the month of June 2020.
You can be part of the post parade in a variety of ways! Here are some examples:
Photos of yourself in your favorite pride-themed outfit
Photos of decorations, signs, flags, banners, etc.
Art, crafts, and photography
Pride themed food and recipes
Music, poetry, or dance performances
Original writing - this could be anything from LGBTQ+ history lessons to personal Pride stories and memories!
Playlists of your favorite Pride jams
Posts that honor people in the community, whether they be an important figure in LGBTQ+ history, an out celebrity you look up to, or a special person in your life.
Shoutouts to your favorite queer-friendly businesses and organizations
Any other way you’re celebrating Pride Month this year!
Just like any other Pride parade or festival, there are a few rules to note if you’re planning to participate:
Homemade Pride Parade is inclusive and intersectional! This is a space to lift each other up and spread positivity. If you’re part of the community or support those who are, join the celebration!
The first Pride was a riot. Pride as we know it would not exist without transgender women of color. Do not forget this as you are celebrating this year and every year. This page stands with protesters who are fighting against police brutality.
Please only submit content that you made yourself—no reposting of others’ content.
Have fun! But of course, use common sense and make safe decisions.
If you have any questions, feel free to send a message or ask!
We hope you’ll join in on the festivities! Happy Pride Month! 🏳️🌈
