You might be more than one. You might be different ones at different times. 🫶🏽🫶🏽 you might not be one of these. There are more roles 💪🏽 but this is an amazing intro.
You can’t just like the idea and envision yourself in one of these roles you have to figure out how to be about it ♥️🫶🏽
If you're feeling anxious or depressed about the climate and want to do something to help right now, from your bed, for free...
Start helping with citizen science projects
Public participation in science is increasing, and citizen science has a central part in this. It is a contribution by the public to researc
What's a citizen science project? Basically, it's crowdsourced science. In this case, crowdsourced climate science, that you can help with!
You don't need qualifications or any training besides the slideshow at the start of a project. There are a lot of things that humans can do way better than machines can, even with only minimal training, that are vital to science - especially digitizing records and building searchable databases
Like labeling trees in aerial photos so that scientists have better datasets to use for restoration.
Or counting cells in fossilized plants to track the impacts of climate change.
Or digitizing old atmospheric data to help scientists track the warming effects of El Niño.
Or counting penguins to help scientists better protect them.
Those are all on one of the most prominent citizen science platforms, called Zooniverse, but there are a ton of others, too.
Oh, and btw, you don't have to worry about messing up, because several people see each image. Studies show that if you pool the opinions of however many regular people (different by field), it matches the accuracy rate of a trained scientist in the field.

I spent a lot of time doing this when I was really badly injured and housebound, and it was so good for me to be able to HELP and DO SOMETHING, even when I was in too much pain to leave my bed. So if you are chronically ill/disabled/for whatever reason can't participate or volunteer for things in person, I highly highly recommend.
Next time you wish you could do something - anything - to help
Remember that actually, you can. And help with some science.
Man all these years of making Tumblr gifsets, reblogging so many posts and my cosplays that keep on piling up, going to Dashcon Two was a full circle moment all around for me and all of us. It's my birthday today on Snake Day so yeah and I had a great Tam at @dashcon-two a while ago and meeting many wonderful people such as @strange-aeons @raccoonmilf @squirrel-bones @zeekayart @auzziejlee and moar. It was also nice to meet @cinnacorn Miss Frizzle cosplay, @pixellilac as Jack Frost, @stickyben as Gandalf's big naturals and saw so many more wonderful people there. Congrats Sir Strange for winning the duel with Muppet Croaker and I also had fun volunteering and being a helpful guide to people for their water fountain and general guide stuff at the later half of the day and amazing how this con was so wonderfully ran and organized. I would love to thank everyone because We Are The Champions and I loved every extra hour on the Ballpit and Arena and Horse Plinko and many more. I also tripped during the Masquerade but that did not stop me from slaying onstage because I overcame my fall from Heaven and thankfully I was okay and the crowd and I loved each other. Thank you all for liking my cosplay and enjoying our fun Tams. Also loved getting the Good Omens art from @firerinart the Jayvik stickers from @iiisa-art and the handsome Squidward art and Spamton stickers from some vendors and the Dashcon Ballpit sticker is by my friend Zee of course :D
Toronto Raccoons for life and let's keep on Tumbling. P.S. Aziraphale couldn't make it because he had Superheaven duties so you get my Crowley all the same here. Be Cringe and Free. 😎❤️
Hey american tumblruser. Wanna do more about The Moment than harass your representatives (you're harassing your representatives, right?) but for any/all reasons you're not up to leaving your house to do it?
Look up your local organizations, pick your favorites. Get familiar, whatever that means in this context. Read over their website, scroll through their facebook page, watch any volunteer orientations, attend a zoom open house.
Once you are, reach out and ask if they need anyone to handle a mundane administrative task. Pick one you're familiar with, or can get familiar with, either that you can do sustainably or something that's a one-off, like building or cleaning up a website.
(I picked, "reply to emails asking questions that are already answered by your website.")
Lots of political/community orgs are getting a surge of activity right now. Good odds they're run by worn-out retirees. If they get an email saying, "I'm only available 30 minutes a week but do you need any data entry done?" or "Would you like some help line-editing your weekly newsletter?" the odds are very good they might actually physically cry with relief.
It's not glamorous, but it feels real good and it is important work. You won't make history but you'll know where you stood inside it.

DashCon 2 is almost entirely a volunteer-run operation, and last year we were lucky enough to have over 200 incredible people to keep the convention running smoothly. We rely on our volunteer team for things such as managing lines, scanning tickets, operating AV equipment, and standing vigil over the ball pit. Volunteering is a great way to meet other Tumblrinas, pick up new skills, get a free t-shirt, and help make DashCon 2 the best it can be!
