First day of tour, or first day on the road. I stopped in the middle of nowhere to look at the Peach Springs VORTAC. This is a transmitter beacon that airplanes use to find their positions. While commercial airlines use GPS, they still rely on a series of these beacons for backup. And smaller airplanes may only use these beacons. It’s interesting to drive out to the middle of a dirt road and find a building that is relaying signals to pretty much any flight flying over Arizona.
