The embarrassment stings Connor more than the blooming bruise on his cheek or the split lip. This is what he gets for putting his nose in something that hadn’t been his business, but he couldn’t just stand by and let the stranger be continually harassed by someone who didn’t know how to take no for an answer. He sits outside the pub with a splintered ego, holding a singular ice cube that is quickly melting to his face. When he’s joined by the other, he looks down to the ground. “You okay?” He would rather refocus on them rather than discuss the obvious that he’d had his ass handed to him. He hadn’t even thrown up his hands. As a career negotiator, he hadn’t been interested in resorting to violence.
