Like everyone else I was shocked to hear about the death of Tony Hsieh. Back in 2009 when Zappos was purchased by Amazon I was hired by PRWeek Magazine to go photograph Tony Hsieh for a story they were doing. When I arrived they gave me a badge and took me to monkey row. Monkey row was a small area with vines and stuffed monkeys hanging from the ceiling. The desks were packed in like sardines, no cubical walls, no doors, no receptionists, no social distancing, this is where the executives including Tony sat and did their daily work. I was busy setting up lights and this guy walks by me and sits down and starts working. I had to ask him if he was Tony because I didn’t know what he looked like. He said yes and I said great I’ll be your photographer today. We did several different setups and locations around the office and you can see what PRWeek decided to publish. I even got my Polaroid photo taken in the Zappos Throne.
