Worlds - Day One (Part One)
The ladies event happened early today (at least for me lol). Here is the breakdown:
In no surprise, Evgenia Medvedeva of Russia is in the lead but only by about three points over Kaetlyn Osmond of Canada. Things are very close after that. Gabrielle Daleman of Canada is about three points behind her. Reigning Bronze Medalist Anna Pogorilaya of Russia is about .66 points behind her. Karen Chen surprised everyone by skating the way we always knew she could, and is sitting in fifth, about a point and a half behind. Finishing out the top six is the third Russian skater, Maria Sotskova, who is only .22 behind.
Ashley Wagner, the reigning Silver medalist, is in seventh, but only about three points off the podium - well within her reach and keeping the US within what we need to keep our three spots. Carolina Kostner is about three points behind her. The top placing lady for Japan, Wakaba Higuchi, is just a little bit behind her in ninth, meaning if something doesn’t happen Japan will most likely lose their third spot for the Olympics. Elizabet Tursynbeava of Kazakstan sits just a little behind her, rounding out the top ten.
Other takeaways from the short -
- Choi Da-bin of South Korea is in eleventh, and only a few points away from gaining a second spot at her home Olympics. - Mariah Bell did well, though she sits in thirteenth. - Rika Hongo and Mai Mihara sit in twelfth and fifteenth, respectively. - The Chinese Ladies will lose their second spot, as Li Zijun underperformed and sits in twentieth. Li Xiangxiang sits in sixteenth.
The pairs is going on as we speak!
