Papa, Kansas City, 2018. Looking like something smart and/or funny is about to come from his high-chinned self, as ever, as I know and remember. Oh, time is the shit, the immovable and fleeting object, subject, and action that is both gone, never to return, and left in endless swaths of folding possibility where origin holds fast to us and goals beckon for our arrival. Family is there in these towns that where time brings dark weather yet Spring and hot Summer like this. In going to Kansas City and embarking upon this/these project(s) having to do with family and origin and longing, I’m faced with vestiges of bodies, oeuvres, and narratives, unresolved and meant to be left loose and open like gestalts that don’t know better or that have fucked the lies of completion all to theoretical hell. It’s senseless to spend too much time worried about whether things begin or end. But, Papa is time, has time, and has given time to me. Time, benefitting me, is my foundation, and bears and releases —poetically— the why’s, the proud moments in flesh and history, and lessons in lives before, including my own. Here, here to the ancestors of now and the understated sages that reveal their lessons in blood that is spilling and experience and the fearlessness that brought us all here. Love, life, peace, and to ever reflective hereness for the family that undoes all three and ceaselessly pours them back into our soulful pouch. Heavy as it may be. Heavy as it is. Oh, love, subversive thing. Oh, time, a place for us all.
