A Pair of Wild Rovers.
The rattling clang of the train as it rumbled down the tracks was all that the duo listened to as they watched the vast wilderness rumble past. Biggs scowled with a look of annoyance on his face as he rubbed the red marks left by the rope upon his neck. Wedge rolled his shoulders lightly as he leaned against the door of the box car, carefully rubbing an alcohol coated cloth over the split knuckles of his fist and cleaning the traces of blood from his hand.
"It's not your fault and you know it buddy, guy was scum and we'll be reachin' a new place to try again soon enough" Came his confident voice before his shorter companion glared at him and he fell silent. Biggs slowly cracked his knuckles before retrieving the blade and whetstone from his pack, long scrapes across the stone echoing in partially filled car. It was a story Biggs dealt with time and time again, and it had gotten old. Settle at a place, find work, and then get driven out by some scum refusing to listen like some cruel joke of fate.
Wedge would sigh and shake his head as he looked out into the sun beat lands they'd be trying next. A new start out west could do his friend worlds of good he'd hoped. The train rattled about them with a steady rhythm as the tall Irishmen stood and grasped onto the door-edge, starting to hum a slow and steady tune with the beat created by grinding steel and turning wheels.
The ride would be long and the days dragging before they reached the next town in the line, until then it was just the pair, Wedge trying to convince his buddy that it'd all work out and Biggs quietly trying to not unleash all his pent up rage on the lovable giant that got them so lost that he got them on a train heading west instead of north. The long whistle of the engine as the station came into view was the sign to the pair that it would be time to depart, especially since they hadn't exactly paid for their ride.
Wedge would jump first, rolling and hurrying to his feet to catch their packs as Biggs threw them from the train, and then to catch Biggs as he lept as well. A momentary pause to catch his breath followed before the duo shouldered their gear and started for town.. unaware of the new world that lay ahead.
