While I am very glad the show expanded Wen Qings role, I DO think they should have kept the book detail that she came up with and wrote the essays on core transfers herself but never found anyone willing to experiment the procedure on until Wei Wuxian. I just enjoy the mad scientist vibe.

The first piece of true wisdom Wei Wuxian passes onto his nephew is 'I'm sorry, and thank you'. Which is, actually, the last thing that Wen Qing ever said to him. So. Jot that down.

Wei Wuxian and Wen Qing and Wen Ning all being red-coded signaling the unbreakable string of fate that bound them together as family from the very beginning. They were always going to end up on the burial mound burying A-Yuan in the mud and calling him their little raddish. Do u understand. Do u see.

And she CUT WEI WUXIAN OPEN. Wen Qing CUT WEI WUXIAN OPEN to his very core and pulled out his golden core with her own fingers, because he ASKED HER TO. She owed him literally nothing, and she did this huge thing for him. And he looks to her ever after, looks after her, tries to repay a debt she specifically never wanted repaying. He saves her brother, his hands and his mind sculpting Wen Ning back to life just as Wen Qings mind and hands gave Wei Wuxians brother meaning again. He buys potatoes when she asks for radishes. Do you understand? Do you understand how deep their friendship is, how bloody and covered in their own guts and insides it is and how much they trust one another I am INSANE about them

Sorry I'm still not over - will NEVER be over - the fact that Wen Qing not only gave herself up for Wei Wuxian but gave up HER BROTHER. HER BROTHER. The most important person in the whole wide world to her. The person who she would protect over everyone and anyone. The person who she screamed for in the rain, who she swallowed her pride and begged for, who she ran miles and miles for until she was ragged. Her brother who was DEAD when she found him and who was brought back to her and who she cried for when he first said her name again. And she LET her brother go with her to hand themselves in, for what she believed was certain death, to keep Wei Wuxian alive and give him a shot. She plucked him with her needles and made Wei Wuxian stay paralyzed so that Wei Wuxian couldn't swoop in at the last minute and save them (again). She did this for him, for the extra time Wei Wuxian had given them, for the respect and love and friendship and family between them. I'm. That's. That's her BESTIE. That's her BESTIE who she LOVES. WEI WUXIAN AND WEN QING LOVE EACH OTHER SO MUCH GUYS

Another excellent choice when they adapted MDZS into the TV show was to make it super duper clear that Wen Qing was one of - if not THEE - best friends Wei Wuxian ever had. They have such a lovely chemistry in the show (thank you Xiao Zhan and Meng Ziyi) and it's very clear that they not only understand one another on a fundamental level (particularly their feelings about their respective siblings) but they also love one another; bring one another food, chat, get each other intellectually, rib on each others choices. And obviously that's there in the books a little bit (in both adaptations Wen Qing is the one who gives Wei Wuxian money to get robes and gifts for Jin Lings one-month celebration AND obviously she gives herself and her brother up for him), but with the expansion of Wen Qings role they really brought that dynamic so much more fully to life on screen in a way that makes my chest ache. When I first watched and didn't know Wen Qing died prior to Wei Wuxian, I was so excited to watch them have their reunion post-wei Wuxian resurrection because I thought it would be the sweetest of all the reunions. And I truly think Wei Wuxian will mourn her for the rest of his long life. That's his BESTIE. ahdkdkdlsldjfkf I have so many feelings about them
