What Is Stress
The simplest definition of stress is when your brain panics over something new or difficult. It can happen if we don't feel like we’re in control or if we feel threatened.
Brain:
When we do feel stressed, our prefrontal cortex (the one in charge of decision-making) shrinks. While that shrinks, the amygdala (in charge of “fight or flight”) will actually start to grow. The hippocampus is also affected, as it is disrupted by stress. It means we will be quick to respond to situations, but not necessarily think it through.
Energy:
When You get stressed, your energy is greatly affected. There are three stages of this happening.
First, you’ll mobilize your energy. Your body will generate adrenaline, which causes your heart and breathing to speed up
Secondly, you’ll start consuming your energy after a bit of time in the mobilizing stage. Your body will start releasing fats and sugar that's been stored in your body. When that happens, you’ll feel focused, then pressured and finally, tired.
Lastly, Your energy sources will start to drain. You don’t have any more energy to feel stressed. When this happens, you’ll start to get insomnia, your judgement will become weaker and your personality will be different.
Conclusion:
The effects of stress are all fine for short-term stress but do not help with long-term stress. It damages our physical and mental health to be stressed for long periods of time. However, stress looks different for everyone, whether it’s the symptoms or the way we cope.
