My Zoom graduate class yesterday was so crazy because we were (still are) all so fucking stressed about this election.
Normally we are so stressed because of life and COVID but this Monday's class had extreme anxiety written all over it and one of my classmates is a pastor.
And I feel really bad for him because he just wants to preach about Jesus he has been dragged through the ringer these past few weeks. 2 weeks ago he released a video about wearing masks to keep each other safe. He got so many emails from people waiting the church saying that he is taking away their rights. Come on guys. You had to email him.
Yesterday he looked dead.
He told us that people are constantly getting on him because he wants people to be treated equally (He is pro BLM and Masks). He said (without being specific) that certain people have been bothering him because they didn't agree with him. He said there has been so much racial strife and political strife within the church.
I am an agnostic. But I believe that religion can be a form of hope for people. I know religion can restrict people and certain groups. One of the reasons why I don't believe. But I always believed that (as long as you are not hurting anyone) if believing in something helps you get through the day.
This man is absolutely miserable. He was not like this at the beginning of the semester. We all like this man because he is kind and he has his funny and goofy moments. Seeing him so broken, and exhausted. It hurt us all.
Politics has gotten to the point now where we are absolutely broken up. We were broken up before but now it is almost broken to the point where it is irredeemable.
I have always been a pessimistic person but I feel like I live in Gotham city right now. Only all of America is Gotham city and there is nowhere to go.
It is like there is no hope.
Please take care of yourselves out there.
