Summary:
He’s cocky, a jerk, and insufferably annoying—with astonishingly good looks and a smile that could kill. Constable Stuart made it his life mission to make your existence a living hell: pulling pranks, holding things over your head, teasing you relentlessly, and abusing his authority like he owns the place. You thought you were finally rid of him when you were stationed at a moteline hut. But fate had other plans—Constable Stuart ends up at the very same outpost, acting nonchalantly as if he didn’t work hard to find a way back into your orbit… He did it on purpose. You know he did. And now, you’re on your last nerve.

You grumble under your breath, tightening another value into the motoline machine. Anything to drown out the thoughts worming into your head. The bobby who wouldn’t leave you alone no matter what you did.
Slim figure, masculine build, and a grin that bordered on sadistic—Constable Stuart had a look that stuck in your brain like joy residue. His exotic burnt-red hair (a rare colour in the village) only added to the chaos of him. Above-average height, but not as towering as most bobbies, he was still easy to spot—especially next to your shorter frame.
By the gods, you couldn’t fucking stand him — an absolute flirt and teasing hound, going around grabbing any woman’s attention he could — especially yours. Even if you tell him you’re not interested, he brushes it off — often seeing it as a challenge to test how much teasing and flirting he can get away with. Speaking of Stuart, coincidentally, he’s assigned right at your workplace: one of the motoline plants where you’re working. His task was simply to guard the door — simple enough — yet he often abandoned his post to come talk to you, much to your displeasure.. Stuart is very persistent, often not leaving you alone until the end of your shift distracting you from your job.
You often threatened saying if you fucked up even once the whole entire plant could explode cause of his annoyance, which half the time works well enough for him to piss off back to the job he was tasked to do and not fuck around anymore.
Recently, you started to notice a pattern, not just with Stuart but some of the other bobbies too. They all have "attempted" to impress you every chance they got, or they find anyway way to flirt with you though - none of them have succeeded however, it only annoyed and distracted you from your work.
However, you didn’t consider yourself the most prettiest Wellette in town at all mind you, there are so many prettier candidates to fit the description, so you have no clue why all they do is give you in particular all of the attention… It has confused you to no end.
You’ve debated the thought it could be some sort of “bet” of some kind among the lads of the constabulary between themselves for “fun.” After all, bobbies have their ways of tricking a girl's heart. You heard the tales. Your theory came around when you often caught some of the bobbies staring, looking away as you caught them, talking among themselves as they did their jobs.
You’ve heard so many rumours from other ladies about it too, but more so recently. Often a handful of other ladies gave you stern looks, even looks of jealousy and envy. It hurt knowing how some of the ladies in town felt about you, but really, it wasn’t your fault you were getting unwanted attention when you didn’t ask for it! You’d rather stay out of all dating buzz and dedicate yourself to your life and job as it was really the only thing that kept you busy instead. Other people just didn’t understand…
Because of the “so called drama” of it all, you decided to try to keep your distance from Stuart as much as you possibly could as you felt he didn’t deserve your attention and time, often ignoring him and not letting him egg you on as your gut was telling you he was only doing it for the bet, not because he actually did like you. This whole situation was honestly laughable… but was it really?
The clock on the wall suddenly struck, pulling you out of your thoughts for a moment, thankfully. Seeing the time it was a good thing it was time to take your joy pill, you weren't honestly feeling as… Upbeat today.
knock knock knock
Oh great, must be the so called Stuart… should be anyway, was hoping he was going to be a no show today.
Taking your pill with a swallow, you thought you were going to have peace and quiet today, but things just couldn’t go your way. You just wanted to finish your work, head home, and be alone.
Putting your wrench over your shoulder you head towards the door in a huff, not liking to be disturbed. You take a breath before opening said door. Please be maybe another worker of mine please-
"Oi, how is my little bunny doing? Haven't seen ya around here in a while." Elliot says with a wave, seemingly gleaming.
Fucksake-
Of course the ‘all so great Stuart’ was here to make your day better!...
Not.
Your shoulders slump gripping your wrench, leaning against the door frame. You stare blankly at him, feeling your face flare with anger beneath your mask just from his presence alone. Of course it had to be him of all people.
Your eyes couldn't help but notice he wasn't wearing his helmet like he usually did, the lighting reflecting from the moon really expressed his unique features. You've always been aware of his appearance - you hated that you did, but who could deny that he wasn't a catch?
You blink slowly catching yourself, rolling your eyes - your fingers tapping your wrench.
”Ah, wonderful. Look who the cat dragged in to finally do his job, for once!’ You spread your fingers exaggeratedly, your right thumb still having hold of the wrench.
You didn’t fear hiding your sarcasm and hate for the man. You weren't afraid of him, you never were.
“You’re late…”
Stuart responded with a huff, tightening the grip on his helmet. The breeze in the wind made his hair move slightly, and this directs your focus only for a moment before redirecting your eyes back to his face.
“Perhaps but… ya haven't changed one bit either I see, just how I like it-” He gleams, examining you for a moment before the smile on his features grows bigger from ear to ear.
He noticed something that you didn't. He runs a hand through his curly red locks.
“-Are my eyes deceiving me? Or are you checking me out?” Stuart asked, ever so curious as he leaned closer.
“Enjoy the view when you can, bunny.” He holds back a laugh, rocking the helmet back and forth lightly with his fingers - winking.
If it wasn't for your face mask holding up your smile he'd accuse you of being a downer from how angry he's made you right now.
“Absolutely not, you're insane!” You scowl him, turning your back on to head back to your work. You were already sick of his nonsense and he just got here.
You so desperately wanted to lecture him, but what good would that do? It just made him stick around longer.
Stuart followed suit into the small shack, finding a spot near you, leaning against the wall. “Oh c’mon bunny you're no fun-”
“Alright, look Stuart-” You put down your wrench standing up, getting right in his face.
“-Cut it out with the nickname already and let me work. Just because I looked at you it doesn't mean I have an interest in you whatsoever. Get it through your bloody thick skull already ya twat!” You say in a stern tone, shaking a little in rage hoping your message got across fine and clean.
Stuart’s eyes widened at your close proximity, his hand going to his baton. Your eyes widened as well at this, looking back at his hand placement then his face. You two were in a stalemate, just staring at each other, till you had the heart to speak up.
“You wouldn't dare”
“Oh, but I bloody well could, my dear…”
Your hand sneaks to your waist to grab a small wrench. Stuart takes notice of this, the grip on his baton tightens - his smile turning into a sneer.
“I wouldn't do that if I were you.”
“Right back at ya Constable. Are ya having a giraffe? You're supposed to be my so-called ‘body guard'. I thought I was supposed to be in good hands, but you're just daft as shit.”
Stuart just glares, taking one step forward then he stops, his relaxed body turning tense - almost like he was conflicted if he should step closer. His usually snappy comebacks don't come. You notice his eyes squint, almost like he was reading you - watching if you make a move to strike him.
A long pause passes, Sturat then rolls his shoulders - he tilts his head, an audible noise popping from his neck.
“You have a lot of nerve to speak to the officer of the law like that bunny. If I didn't tolerate you I'd have your head and ya job.”
“Threatening… me? Please, you don't have the nerve-”
Stuart doesn't hesitate to step forward, each step threatening then the next. He didn't stop, his movements slowed but with precision that only an officer of the law could possess - his eyes don't move from you once, eyes dilated to a wee spot in the whites of his eyes.
If you weren't scared now you'd be insane not to. Despite his shorter stature he carried his weight like he was 6’0, his confidence never fleeting - an admirable trait from afar, but right now?
It was horrifying being all alone in a motilene shack with a bobby with an unknown motive.
You couldn't read him or say anything to make him back down. By the time your flight or fight response kicked in to run he already had you trapped between the lockers and his body.,
You could push him away, you know you bloody well could with the height differences - but he absolutely boxed you in. By the way he prevented you from moving an inch, you weren't going anywhere. You notice the subtle fixture of the position of his feet, the grip on the wall and his baton.
He wasn't fucking around anymore. This was turning serious, his annoying cocky side turned sour.
Your heart raced, the rapid beating in your ears becoming overwhelming as time felt like it slowed down - the rhythm of your breath coming in short.
Dropping his helmet on the floor it lands with a soft thud beside you both. Stuart places a steady hand on the wall beside your head, leaning down inches apart from your face - his breath came in heavy breathes.
You noticed a musk radiate from him, the smell invading your nostrils - blackberry and… was that sandalwood? Whatever it was, it prevented you from thinking properly. You've never been in this position, having more of a dominant confident mindset you didn't like this power dynamic at all.
Sometimes you've forgotten what he was, a man that's been through training to beat whoever he thought sought wrong - now looking for any reason to make you submit, but you refuse to back down - you weren't going to crumble - not from him.
Not from anyone.
It was once again silent as Stuart continued to observe you, his hand still on his baton and yours on your wrench. You heard the light taps of his gloved hands on the ridges of his weapon, while you nails scratched into the metal of your wrench.
With a silent agreement, you move your hand away from your wrench - slowly and calculated.
Stuart, the ever clever lad, let's go of his baton. He grins wide, a deep chuckle rumbles from him - leaning down to your ear. His bobby mask rubbed against yours with friction, leaving goosebumps. He was warm… too warm, his breath reached your neck - the hairs behind your neck stood.
Your snappy comebacks don't come as he gets closer - staying silent was for the best right now and your safety. Who knows what might set him off right now. However, the tension faded and so did your fear - replaced with something more warm, tender, almost. You sense his other hand was placed lower beside you on the wood, scraping the wood slightly with his white-gloved hands.
Stuart finally spoke, his lips against the shell of your ear. You held back from biting your lip, but couldn't hold back the shiver that went through you.
His voice is low, deep, maybe something more… intimate?
“Be lucky that I tolerate you bunny. Your attitude and stubbornness are ever so infuriating.”
You freeze, inhaling sharply. You tap your fingers against the wooden walls of the hut, trying to settle down your onset of panic. Finally, you breathe out - shaking your head - you scoff at his words.
“Yeah right, you're just stubborn! Not accepting any no from a woman and taking offence to it. There's so many woman that I know that would take you in a bloody heartbeat you're wasting your time-”
“Oh really?”
The sudden cut off caught you off guard, your head spinning trying to figure out how to keep up with him.
“Y…yes isn't it bloody obvious? I hear all the gossip from the ladies. If you don't even notice their remote interest in you then you're obviously dense and putting your energy into the wrong woman.”
Stuart doesn't respond for a moment, taking in what you said in surprise. He pulls away from you, he smirks, his playful side coming back.
“So is this your way of saying you're one of the few women that's interested in me then, hm? You cheeky little thing.”
You've had just about enough of this, pushing him away by the chest. “Go the hell that is not what I was insinuating at all you insufferable jackass!”
However, your attempts to move him fail, as he stays rooted in his spot. At your attempted efforts to move him at all he cackles. As for you, you take notice of the feeling of his chest.
Despite his laziness his chest was… well built.
Firm...
Plush…
Oh…
No stay focused!
“Other ladies might find ya enduring sir, but not me, take the hint already… Now can we stop fucking about and continue our work?”
And he does, his hands going up in defense, he chuckles - he backs off.
“Alright, Alright… so feisty today… I'm curious though-”
Stuart pauses for a moment, bending down to grab the strap of his helmet - standing straight up. He unclasps the strap of his helmet, smoothing down his hair before placing it back on his head - adjusting it. As he hooked on the strap, he put a finger on his chin.
“-Which ladies in particular are interested in me?”
That's it
With your quick wit and a huff you elbow him hard in the chest.
“Don't even go there with me, I'm not saying a word to you!”
He lets out an oof and a small grunt on impact. Stuart was trained for this, but he didn't expect you to do… that. That actually… kind of hurt, his chest now throbbing. Despite your statue you sure could hit hard.
As he clutched his chest he just stared dead on at you, his emotions hard to read. Despite the mask, the way he smiled made it stretch longer with a murderous look in his eyes. His eyes bulged around scanning every inch of you. Stuart's whole aura turned into something scary.
In the moment you didn't know what you were even thinking as your anger took over.
You were fucked.
Assaulting an officer of the law just because he pulls your teeth sometimes? You were really just as insane. You never saw Stuart as any threat, let alone scary, but now you wanted to kick yourself in the ass for what you just did.
Before you could say anything he stood up brushing off his pants, rolling his shoulders. His shoulders crack, you hold your head up high - challenging him to dare try.
Stuart had a devious, menacing look in his eyes trying to intimate you.
Stuart finally let out a low, raspy chuckle — growly and deep — then spoke “Ok… ok fine, you saucy thing you win this one - this time… I'll fuck off.”
Stuart then grabs your arm the second he spoke, squeezing your forearm rather hard. You grunt from the pressure, his grip more than you can handle. “Ya got your point across… Finish your work I'll be guarding the door outside, Miss Y/N.”
With that said he lets go of you. His eyes fix themselves, during bright. Turning around with a pep in his step and an appropriate smile, waving goodbye.
What on earth was even that?!
You stare blankly at the door, feeling rather uncomfortable at what just unfolded. Stuart had all the right to beat you til you were a puddle of your own blood and guts but he didn't, only deciding to leave bruises from his grip instead…
You try to pay no mind as you finally get your peace and quiet, slowly making your way back to your work station. As you began you found yourself thinking back on then moment.. His voice and his grip sent you in a spiral of fear and… something else you'd rather not admit.
God's why did it make you feel something…
Time passes by and you were almost done with your shift. It started raining a bit ago, enjoying the sound of the rain on the metal roof top of the hut, each drop on the metal sounding soothing.
As much as you enjoyed the silence finally… You remembered it wasn't just you around here.
Shit, you forgot about Stuart still being outside.
However there was a little covering above the door outside, so why worry? He was finally doing his job and you were doing yours.
The nagging feeling in the back of your mind though from before was all you could think about, but he needed to hear it, needed someone to stand up to him…
So why did you feel so bad?
And why were you so worried about him getting cold?
You contemplate for a moment, your empathy taking over your logical thought. Why go get him if you told him to leave you alone in the first place? Besides that you hurt him too.
You stop what you’re doing and make your way to the window. You grasp the bottom of it. Before lifting it you take notice of Constable Stuart's stance. He was fidgeting with his gloves, acting rather distracted instead of keeping guard. You never took him as the nervous lad, let alone a fidgety one. Could be because he was cold.
He really did look like a sad looking pup.
With a hesitant lift, the window opens. You pop your head out. He doesn't notice you at first being in his own little world. You clear your throat and that seemed to do the trick.
“H-Hey Stuart, get in here it's cold out. Come warm up.”
He seems hasty with his baton, pointing it right at you, startling him pretty bad. He calms down only slightly seeing it's just you. You don't budge.
“Blimey, don't do that!”
You only shrug, chuckle, shutting the window. Stuart comes in all covered in rain. You slightly see him shiver, looking at you with apologetic eyes - his uniform all soaked. Stuart mutters a thank you. You nod walking to your tool box to begin organising your tools, parts, and wires.
He's quiet for a while you notice, very unlike him.
“Hey uh… sorry for before, lass.” He breaks the silence, but doesn't move.
So do you.
You're stunned for a moment, your heart flutters. It's not like him to apologize.
“Well you didn't hit me, so that's a plus… imagine the paper work.” You tried to joke but it came out as hesitant. “I-Im sorry for elbowing you in the chest, completely uncalled for… please don’t write me up for that.”
The room suddenly became oddly tense as you continued cleaning up, and Stuart was just… standing there. Seeing him stand there tugged at your heart slightly. You try so damn hard to ignore it but…
“You can go sit down, you know… or something.” You mumbled under your breath, pointing behind you to the chair that stood in the corner.
“A-Ah… um right…” Stuart goes to sit down “I thought you didn't want me in here?”
“Look, just because I dislike you doesn't mean I want you catching a cold. I need my guard here.”
Then you hear it, his little laugh.
“Awe so you do care…”
“Oh buss off you show poney I'm giving you sympathy.”
A silence occurred. None of you spoke for a good bit then you heard Stuart tapping his foot and a helmet strap being taken off.
“Y/N I apologise, for everything…”
You lift your head turning towards him, his curly red locks in view “Excuse me?”
“Look I said I apologise, alright?-” He fiddles with the strap of his helmet, staring at the floor “-I… I don't mean to make you mad, or upset with me. As charming as it can be sometimes.” He chuckles, running a hand through his hair.
You couldn't believe this.
“Oh yeah sure, did the other bobbies tell you to say that? Nice try.”
“Other bobbies?... Oh you mean those three.”
You nod.
“No no no, you have it all wrong there. They're doing the bet in their own group, not me. I go solo.”
“So… why the apology now?”
“Because I feel bad for the earlier… conflict, almost pulling my weapon on ya, pining ya on the lockers there. To be fair you elbowing me in the chest was… completely justified…I-I won’t write you up for that… I just…”
You see his helmet drop on the ground, he rubbings his temples.
“I never meant to threaten you, I mean… YOU, threaten me, Y/N.”
You stand up walking toward him, confused, “Constable what do you-”
“-YOU, you're the only wellette that doesn't fall pitty into my hands because of me being a coppa. You don't fall for my… advances. You're stubborn as a mule, and just as independent and sassy-”
He stands up suddenly getting close to you, his neat hair becoming quite frizzed in his agitated state.
“Look… about what you said, right, I clearly overstepped… I didn't think you hated me that much. I really thought that was just our banter, but standing up to me made me realise how much you know your worth. You're stronger than I realised, and you're a hard worker. No other woman in the village is like you so I felt like I had to compete just as much from driving myself… down the bins.”
All this confession was… a lot, you didn't realise your cheeks were forming a red hue under your mask. This was the first honest conversation you two had since being assigned together. He sounded super genuine… as he showed you the most purest smile, grabbing your hands.
“You drive me up the wall, bunny—’ Stuart noticed you’re still confused and frozen in place. He groans in frustration, pulling you to his chest in a swift motion, making you yelp in surprise. “-And you're just as dense… too, stubborn woman ”
Your heart peaked up as you couldn't control yourself. “What about-”
He rolls his eyes. “I only did all that with the other ladies to get you… jealous. I never knew how to talk to you without losing my cool, my professionalism.”
He felt so warm, and his light grip on my hand made you feel dizzy. He was being so gentle with you. You didn't push him away like last time, his touch so respectful. He looked at you with the most admirable eyes, you could just get lost in them. He notices the changes in you, the way you loosened up in his hold, the way your face looked…. angelic.
He moves his hands slowly to your face, placing both gloves on the sides of it as you gasp. Despite the mask being in the way… he felt the way your mask heated up under his touch, he hums happily.
“This is a long shot… but if I had to be honest. I… actually really-” Stuart begins to stutter, something that was very out of the ordinary “-When I say you drive up the way, you really drive me up there. I.. I can't stop thinking about you, I always look forward to finding you even if you're never pleased to see me. I've realised being anxiously annoying was not the right approach.. I'd like to start over, a new slate. No more teasing and no more annoying you-”
You gasp, smacking his chest lightly “-Oi… Don’t threaten me like that.” You shake your head, chuckling. “That’s a part of the fun, isn’t it? To push each other's buttons on a daily basis?”
Elliot just stares, letting your words sink in. He holds back a laugh, holding you tighter.
“Wot, you really mean that-”
“Of course I do you goof-”
His lips grazed your forehead–light, loving, filled with all the pent-up frustration of love bundled in one. Elliot kisses you so gently, so loving in fact you lose your voice. Elliot kept going back for more kisses, each one a little deeper, softer, a little longer than the last. You hear a soft hum from his chest, stroking your back tenderly. He pulls away ever so slightly, slowly, his fingers find your chin, tipping it up.
“S-Stuart-”
“Elliot, ma’am”
Huh?
Your eyes widen out of their sockets… what did he just say?
Elliot waits for you to process it.. Seeing your flabbergasted expression, he chuckles deeply. “You’re mighty cute when you’re like this, ya know…”
“S-Shut up Stuart-”
Elliot hushes you with his finger, nuzzling your nose.
“It’s Elliot, Elliot Stuart ma’am at your service.”
You were in shock, blasted out of the stratosphere and not present - your heart beating so fast you struggled to pace yourself. Holy fuck he just told you his name, his FULL name. You try not to freak out, truly, but from what you’ve heard from the ladies in town that no bobby's shares their first name not just with anyone. It was bloody true then. You didn't expect this, maybe you did mean something to him after all… perhaps.
Elliot tilts his head observing your expressions. Still shocked and being so cute, it left a fuzzy feeling in his heart.
“What? Never heard of a first name before?” Elliot couldn’t help but tease, placing his hands back on your face - tracing the cheeks of your happy face mask with his gloved thumbs.
You scoff softly, avoiding his teasing gaze. “O-Of course I bloody do you ninny… Elliot Stuart. Bloody well suits you, you know that?”
Elliot's eyes widen hearing his name on your lips, his heart pumping ever faster than it has before, he smirks wider.
“I’ve been told it does, but you? Your reaction was worth the wait and all the arguing…”
With that he seals your lips with his with no warning, his mouth warm and inviting as he captures you in his love spell, and by gods you fell for it. He moves his hands slowly down to your lower back, leaning you down slightly to tip you, intensifying the kiss. With your eyes fluttering shut you grasp his suit, matching his energy with the same pent up love you both had for each other even if you were stubborn to admit it directly.
This was enough as it is. In this situation actions spoke more than words. No words needed for how much you two despised yet loved each other in your own way.
Elliot then pulls away, lingering in this new found feeling, a sense of calm and relief. He pulls you back up close to his chest hugging you tight. You don’t hesitate to hug back, feeling his hardened muscles against his uniform yet you felt like you were wrapped in a blanket. The texture of his uniform - wool so soft with a slight scratchy feeling, Elliot’s breathing - so calming to your much faster heart rate. This felt right, everything did. Both of you continue to enjoy the moment, forgetting your past arguments, fighting - just enjoying each other.
Elliot may be an idiot—an idiot with authority, which is dangerous enough as it is—but at least you know he truly meant what he said about not being a part of the bet. Bobbies will be bobbies, doing their own thing, as usual…
