Pacific Crest Trail Day 10: I wake up with the sound of wind turbines still whomping away in the background excellent white noise (though I still prefer running water). . Most of the hiking today revolves around a long and gradual climb back up into the mountains after the massive decent I spent the better part of yesterday coming down. I remember this from 2013, but that's not all I remember. I literally remember everywhere I camped, took breaks, got water, and got lost. Is it easier to remember things that happen while you're exercising? . But going back to getting lost, I can't believe that I hiked the PCT with paper maps the first time around. My first time backpacking and I somehow managed to navigate with paper maps. I have seen very few people carrying paper maps this time around and most have them as a backup (if they do at all). Most everyone is instead using an app for navigation. The team over at @guthookguides has done an amazing job of creating an app to help you hike the PCT (and many other trails) to an extent that almost feels like cheating. You have the trail, water sources, campsites, features, comments, and more all at your fingertips. It's honestly probably the reason that a lot of people even have the confidence to be out here. . With the exception of a few sprinkles, the sun is beating down on me for most of the day and by the late afternoon it's really getting to me - to the point where I need to sit down and take it easy for a while before making my final push for the day. . If all goes well, I'll be in my favorite place tomorrow - town. .  Day: Cabazon to PCT 243.5 Day's distance: 31.48mi / 50.65 km Day's elevation gain: 9,561 ft / 2,915 m #WhiteWaterPreserve #PCT
