Just like old times
When the gates finally opened for the day's slaughter, the Engineer was grinning. He'd tossed his double in his room and locked him up good and tight, he'd shined up his wrench and gun until they shone, and he set out with a smile on his face.
Even though he was smiling, inwardly, he was troubled. As ready as he was to tear the majority of those sons of bitches into minced meat, there was one BLU he wasn't looking forward to turning into a pulp. And still, he was drawn to where he knew the BLU would be. Chris wouldn't be hiding. He wouldn't be coming out of the gate swinging. If he knew the Spy at all, he'd be relaxing, taking it all in from some high vantage point.
Christ, did he miss those long-gone days, when things were simpler and he didn't have to put the Dandy down. He still remembered being dragged off by the Spy on all his crazy schemes. Drawing rude things in the BLU base's lavatories, creeping into the BLU Heavy's room to throw paint on his gun- that had definitely not ended well, and many more such things.
What had happened to those better times? Ed sighed wistfully, drawing a thumb over the little Spy doll in his pocket. He hadn't brought it with him in a long time, but today, he wore it with purpose. He couldn't keep it, but he couldn't just throw it out.
A gift like that had to be returned, and he meant to return it.
