My Life in Music - Year 8

Alright! Now for an abrupt change of pace. Another CD that I got from Jimmy.

I turned 8 in 1999, so the majority of that year was ruled by hype about the Millennium (or Y2k as we totally hip and happening people called it at the time). This song was super relevant and it was probably the first song that I remember understanding references in...though, the “and we’re gonna party like it’s 19-- hold up! It is!” went over my head for many more years.

As a nervous and neurotic child, you would have thought that all the terror associated with Y2k would have had me in a constant state of panic. However, for once in my terrified little life, I wasn’t scared of something that everyone was worried about. I remember being super excited about the new Millennium. I also remember telling my second grade teacher about this song because sometimes I thought I was the only consumer of pop culture in the world and everyone else lived in a vacuum, I guess.

Anyway, my Uncle David worked on the state’s computer system, so with all the hubbub about computer problems when the computers went from 99 to 00, they wanted him and his coworkers to be available on-call that night. So, I remember spending the night in a fancy-schmancy hotel room in downtown Little Rock.
