It's always fun to see my name in a program! I performed a selection from Rida Johnson Young's novel Out of the Night at the Authors Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Last year I performed my own work and was happy to be invited back. It was a lot of fun to use different voices to play all the characters. Rida Johnson Young was a famous songwriter, novelist and playwright who went to my school in the 1890s. She had her plays performed on Broadway and some of her Works became Academy Award nominated films. She's also a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame. I am so blessed. Thank you to everyone that made yesterday so incredible--both those who could attend and those who reached out to me. Not only did I have the opportunity to read from my novella in front of a crowd but I won 2 awards at the academic achievement ceremony. The first was for scholarship I've written relating to the dramatic arts. All the papers I've written about film and television, the scripts I wrote for classes (sometimes I have managed to convince professors to let me write screenplays to creatively approach the material instead of writing a traditional paper), and my work in entertainment journalism were all worth it! My second award was for my success in my French class. I've had a lot of fun with my videos for the course, like when I did a Dolly Parton impersonation IN FRENCH. I am so happy to know that my French professor has enjoyed the risks I take in my work. And I got my picture taken with Kim and Robin who have not only been amazing as a support system for me while working together at thr newspaper but also during my entire career here at Wilson. I wrote an article for the newspaper about @rupaulofficial being honored as one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People and my experience at The Haters Roast. I have so much respect for RuPaul and am thrilled Time put him on their list! Since I don't have a picture of him that I took myself to publish in the issue, I whipped up a quick doodle tonight of Ru for the article! Had you heard of him before this post or have you seen his work before? + + I had the privilege to work alongside Patrick in 2015 as he created 'A Walk On The Wild Side' Stickworks at Wilson College. + + I look all pretty and polished here- but don't be fooled.
