So I wrote more for my Winter's Touch ficlet thing. Here it is in its entirety. I don't want to ruin it by trying to do anything else to it. Enjoy and make sure you push play to listen while you read.
Winter's Touch
Fingertips brushed against naked skin, softly illuminated by the moonlight. The snow outside fell softly, undisturbed except by the light wind. Though the heat radiated off their skin, they shivered, and not just from cold. They held each other close, breathing in each other’s scent, noses rubbing behind ears and under jaws. Two pairs of lips, ever so softly, placed light kisses along cheekbones, jawlines, foreheads. Long eyelashes caressed the smooth skin of the other’s face. They had nothing left but their love for each other. This may be their final night. They were going to make it last.
They laid pressed together in the soft blue light cast by the moon through the single bedroom window, just listening to each other breathing. Here, curled together underneath their old patchwork quilt, they were safe, completely cut off from the outside world, the war, the corrupted government, the ruined cities and marred countryside. Time stood still, yet moved much too quickly. Their anxiety prevented sleep, so instead they ran their fingers through each other’s soft hair and murmured sweet declarations of love in each other’s ears.
The past was but a distant memory, the future an ominous, unknowable haze. The present, however, was perhaps the most frightening. Anticipation is always worse than the impending doom. Their breathing quickened in a tangle of limbs as they kissed each other, hungrily, almost desperately. No matter what happened, they had decided, even if they were separated, they would always have each other. But it was an unspoken understanding between them that life without the other was no life at all. They smiled at each other, small, sad smiles, but genuine nonetheless. Then, pressed so closely that neither air, nor water could pass between them, sleep finally came.
They were came for in the morning.
