Almost 300 word snippet from my Akiangel character study WIP to keep the brainworms moving

The man in front of them is dying. He has no legs. His eyes are blown wide, barely any iris left, all black and bulging blood-shot white. His voice is familiar in the way the sound of misery is; inconceivable pain turned all too suddenly conceivable.

In the mess of gore and blood, the devil’s carcass stinks where it sprawls, less than a foot away as Angel crouches, arms wrapped around his knees, staring. The man stares back with those eyes. Those pain-filled, expressive eyes.

Something deep inside Angel is alive. Its native compulsion writhes beneath his skin, a famishment yearning to soak in the scene, to soak in more than just the scene, like a current burning through his nerves. His body sings with it; his breaths deeper, vision sharper with moans of agony calling like that of a wounded lamb’s.

There's something else too in him. Something with a sallow weight, nestled beside the searing current - just as native, just as real - as Angel stares at the man and does absolutely nothing.

It’s Aki who moves.

He strikes, sinking his katana - Angel’s katana - in the man’s head, cutting his suffering short with clinical humanity. When he pulls it out, blood like red wax drips from its tip, stamping his mercy.

Slowly, Aki turns to look at him completely. There is something aching on his face, between emotions and impossibly beyond. Angel can’t even hope to identify it.

“I don’t think we can be friends, even pretend.”

Angel’s wings flutter in the evening breeze. It stinks of iron and further off, sewage.

“I guess not.”

Aki hates devils. Angel is something rotting masquerading as something benevolent. Why Aki sounds almost surprised about this naked fact, Angel doesn’t know.

Sneak Peek Submissions

Hello, Kenfetti creators, we hope your Kenfetti Week '22 creations shaping up nicely! April Fools' Day is finally over with, we have six weeks of creating left before all Kenfetti Week submissions are due, and we've seen a lot of exciting chatter about what everybody's working on. To keep up that momentum and hopefully even ramp up some more anticipation, we've opened up our submission box for anyone who'd like to send in a sneak peek of their works!

Maybe a snippet of fic, maybe a close-up detail of art, whatever you're working on, we mods would be delighted to catch a glimpse and we're sure our followers would as well!

Groundhog Day by @abalonetea is a story set in two versions of the same classic rpg video game, one the gritty reboot of the other. But when glitches start to wreck the original games’ codes, several characters begin retaining memories of their past lives, realizing their kingdoms are trapped in a time loop. It’s even worse when another glitch strikes, switching the games of one of the characters with his counterpart---Red and Blue---prompting a race to get home amidst the formation of friendship and family and the threat of a new war.

It’s also one of my absolute favourite wips on writeblr, and I absolutely highly recommend it!

Quill got bored and made a new aesthetic template. And I thought... what better wips to practice my edit skills on than some of my absolute favourites? First up for the wip showcasing, @abalonetea‘s Groundhog Day! You can expect some others coming up throughout the week~
