The Witch's Ladder
Nobody warned me that trying to build a witch's ladder from scratch was going to be such an ordeal
ⓘ Readers added context they thought people might want to know: OP did this to themself by going off on a mental tangent and wound up not only trying to put this spell together, but also cleaning part of their room because they got distracted, and now they're attributing their overall exhaustion to the overcomplicated spell they're working on
Just a page from my grimoire -- I made a witch's ladder and wrote down the spell so that I only need to open my grimoire if I need it! I was inspired by Alwyn Oak's latest video to make this. The witch's ladder isn't pictured here but I'll try to take a photo later.
A Cantrip Wreathe I made for a client, which involved empowering and aligning the virtues of eight Botanical Spirits within a framework of Knot Magic.
In this Wreathe, eight knots are underpinned by Nutmeg, Wishing Bean, Jezebel Root, Beth Root, High John root, Master Root, Cinammon Stick, and Lucky Hand root, respectively. The ninth and final knot serves to bind these virtues together synergistically, forming a new 'alloy' of virtues specialized for the given task.
Hi, I’m making a witch’s ladder for protection and I’m stuck trying to think of objects to tie into it. Do you have any suggestions?
Witch's ladders are usually made from sticks, twigs, or feathers, depending on what materials you have available. You can use feathers or sticks from the craft store, natural twigs and sticks you find sitting around, or legal and ethically-sourced feathers from reputable dealers. (I will note that this last is hard to find since the laws dealing with the sale and trade of animal parts are very strict.)
For a simple one, I'd recommend craft sticks or twigs from your yard, since that's probably the easiest material to gather. Make sure you use strong jute or kitchen twine to put it together and try to keep the sticks horizontally balanced so it doesn't tilt. Tie a prism or a bell or a clutch of wind chimes at the bottom to give it weight and a focus.
Hope this helps!
The world of magic and mysticism is filled with a myriad of fascinating and enigmatic tools and symbols. One such tool is a Witch's Ladder.

Knot Magick
Knot magick is the practice of performing spells by tying knots. This kind of magick is also known as a witch’s ladder.
You can use string, ribbon, plant stems, pretty much anything you can tie into a bunch of knots.
A very simple way of doing knot magick that I know of is by setting your intention for the spell, and then tying 3 knots.
“By knot of one, the spell’s begun.
By knot of two, the spell comes true.
By knot of three, so mote it be.”
However, the most common way is to make 9 knots. Picking up at knot 4...
“By knot of four, the power is stored.
By knot of five, the spell’s alive.
By knot of six, my will is fixed.
By knot of seven, the future I leaven.
By knot of eight, my will is fate.
By knot of nine, what’s done is mine.”
There are different variations of the wording for these kind of spells, these are just the versions that I like.
If a specific number corresponds to your working, you could of course use that many knots. You don’t need to say the words I’ve listed above, you could just think them, or not use them at all! It’s your practice, do what works for you :)
Please let me know if I’ve messed anything up, I’ll do my best to fix it right away!
