bilbo baggins was quite familiar with hobbits.
he could fill an entire book and still have lots more to say, but he devoted a very sincere, wonderful chapter concerning hobbits in his own book. bilbo was fond of hobbits' passions, be it about ales, food, tomfoolery, the green earth, or about each other. despite family politics, of course.
there was one hobbit in particular, a curly, red-headed gal from buckland, who pursued him up in hobbiton, begging and pleading for stories about his adventures with gandalf and the dwarves. he was flattered, of course, because hardly anyone asked him these days. some of his previous acquaintances had cast him off as soon as he returned from his journey. oddities and the like, presuming he was dead, that sort of thing.
her brown eyes sparkled with delight, her lips curved into a smile, and her laugh sounded like bells; she was always enchanted by his tales. bilbo supposed he was rather fond of hobbits, and remarkably, quite fond of haley too.
