    HE’S QUIET FOR A LONG TIME, gaze strangely distant as he idly traces the creases of the letter with his nail, breath hitched on unspoken words. His heart has dropped into his stomach, the world falling out from beneath his feet, and he thinks he should have seen it coming, shouldn’t feel as NUMB as he does right now. It would happen eventually, he knew, and yet Dmitry has never felt so lost before. The letter pinched between his fingers is from Lily, not an abnormality now that there’s an ocean ( and a fucking war ) separating them, but the news enclosed is nothing like her usual ramblings.

                                                     VLAD POPOV IS DEAD.

    And Dmitry feels like he’s been punched in the gut, the air stolen from his lungs as his mind fights to process the swell of grief he can feel strangling emotions in his throat. It’s his neighbour’s voice that reminds him where he is, feet planted firmly in the carpeted hallway of their apartment complex in front of the opened mailbox, and he shakes his head to clear it, pivoting suddenly to glance up at the other man.

    “Yeah, I just...” The deceit tastes bitter on his tongue, but Dmitry tries to wipe that ashen look off this face. There’s something in him that makes him want to BOLT, to run back to a bygone time of scrambling through city gutters and glasses of wine on their Parisian balcony, but he stands frozen, swallows hard. God, his impatience has gotten the best of him, he should’ve waited for Anya to come home, and he wishes she were here, wrapping her arms around his waist to hold him together. But she’s not here. It’s just Steve, and for once, Dmitry thinks that might be okay, because this is one thing he can’t brave alone. “It’s a friend from back home. I... I didn’t know it’d be the LAST TIME.”

❛ because you hope, steve. you have faith. ❜  but its not accusatory in the least. perhaps she’s jealous of his ability to believe, not just in a higher power but in his unshakable faith. how could he stop believing in god when he has never given up on the people around them? those she’s written off, he keeps close to the vest though she could never fault him for it. 

fingers brush through strands of his hair, affectionate in a way she’s not known for to most. but even her icy exterior is a shell he’s broken through and she’ll never be the same for it. ❛ i know when i stopped. ❜ she pauses, her mind revisiting the scars of old wounds. ❛ back when fury left me for dead...when he took me away from you...from my family. all those months in between were torture, and it hardened me, you know? i was an absolute mess when i came back and you still believed in me. that’s just who you are --you don’t give up on anyone. ❜

firstly, your dedication to april fools stunned me when i first saw your blog lol

but also i’ve been watching you and @bcstgirl and never have i cheesed so hard at a steve/peggy !! but anywhose  --  i love your writing, especially your dialogue. it’s really hard to make it flow sometimes, but you make it look like it’s nothing!
