I'm not saying Starlight becoming Co-Captain was a stupid plot point... But her being the FIRST woman co-captain of any super team in this universe is REALLY fucking stupid.
Okay, I get that The Boys is a DECONSTRUCTION, it is not beholden to the laws that otherwise govern most Superhero things. But you're really gonna tell me no fem Supe before Starlight was EVER a Co-Captain? I know almost every one of the Supes in The Boys is some kind of monstrous asshole but they do get married. They fall in love, that crap. Case and point: Homelander legit had a thing for Maeve, Soldier Boy genuinely loved Crimson Countess, and Translucent had a wife and son.
You're gonna tell me that at no point, even a young group of supes got co-led by a couple of some sort? No supes ever got married and started doing that?
Has there never been a female leader of a team full stop? I'm gonna call bullshit again because without Soldier Boy, why wouldn't Crimson Countess take over Payback? I get that the team fell apart after a while, but they were still a team long enough for The Seven to form. Why wouldn't she take over? She was Soldier Boy's main squeeze, Noir had brain damage, Gunpowder was a child, the TNT Twins would still mean there was a co-captain, and Mindstorm probably wasn't a great pick on the grounds that he was slowly losing his damn mind. And of course, Swatto was dead.
You're really gonna tell me a company that specializes in making and maintaining the public image of fake superheroes for marketability NEVER once had like... an all-female team? The kind of thing that would kill in certain marketing demographics?
I'm just saying. That line, which was dropped by Starlight herself, was so stupid it caused me psychic damage while rewatching season 3 of the show.
