      a thousand words swirled in her mind, a thousand different ways to say what she should have just told him then and there.  her breath caught,  of course -- she had left him.  she’d turned her back and walked away.   but oh he had it wrong,  but he couldn’t understand -- not unless she finally spoke the truth she’d been hiding.   but that grief had been her own and no one else’s... 

                ‘   no!  that’s --- ‘   she tried to reason -- she tried to stop before he’d say just how badly she’d hurt him.  a strangled sob -- a hand pressed to her stomach.   ‘ stop !  stop ! it wasn’t that --- it wasn’t you. it was me! ‘  a softer cry as she tried to sustain some level of control,   ‘ it wasn’t you it wasn’t it was all me. i wasn’t enough. i couldn’t -- be enough. i was never -- going to -- be able to fix what i did.  ‘  her voice was thready,  but she managed to control her emotions to at least get that much out.

            ‘   tomas --- ‘   fingers curled to a fist in the fabric of her sweater,   ‘  i came back here.  to bury my grandmother.   i found out something -- and before i could tell you.  ‘   another quick breath,  she was dodging too much.   ‘  i found out i was pregnant ---   with our baby.   and then -- i fought -- with my parents because i was leaving to go to you --.  ‘  her hands trembling,   ‘  i --- fell down the stairs,  the whole flight of them.  and --- as soon as i found out ---  i’d lost our child.   and i couldn’t come home to you. i couldn’t tell you then.  i couldn’t not tell you --- so i ran. and i hid.  and i --- i’m sorry. for all of it.   i’m so -- so sorry.   ‘   she was crying by now,  tears trailing down her cheeks,  both hands raising now to try and brush them away.  

                   ‘   now i’m just hurting you --- all over again... ‘

He took her hand in his, caressing her palm with a singular digit. His countenance is a mixture of undecipherable emotions, but those golden-brown optics reflect an overall somber attitude. " If I were to ever lose my sense of self, to become a seaborn, as they say... " Lumen paused momentarily, his chest hurting as he speaks. " Please do not hesitate to strike me down."

What was he saying?

"W...what brought this up?" Shit, her voice is shaking. "Why would...why would you ask me this, Jordi? You wouldn't become a seaborn that easily....right?"

It wasn't something she wanted to think about, that one moment he would be there and the next....

"Don't...ask me to do the impossible...."

A subtle flattening of her ears, followed by an audible exhale. The Saintess turns towards Inari, a fatigued smile flitting across her lips. ❝ Get along? Time does not erase all wounds, Doctor Inari. And some bridges, once burned, cannot be mended. ❞ Perhaps she is being selfish with wanton emotions. But for once, the thin veneer of professionalism slips. Pramanix is no longer 'Pramanix', but Enya.

The doctor closes her eyes and sighs quietly. She knows it's too much to ask, and she is grateful that they put things aside to do operations but...the situation unsettled her more than she'd like to admit.

"I know, Enya." Professionalism stripped away for the moment, for this private conversation between the two women. "I would not ask if I felt it was impossible.... I will not use the excuse that you two are family....but you can't deny that you two are all Ensia has left, and I believe it hurts her to see you two like this..."

"I can't demand you two get try and be better to each other, because you are right, time does not heal all wounds." She had to consider Kal'tsit and W.

"But I will ask, is it worth holding onto those negative feelings?"

whether it’s the way you bare your teeth when backed in a corner, your loyalty, or your tendency to act on instinct, your reoccurring theme is the dog. like mitski said “i get mean when im nervous, like a bad dog” or how halsey said “i won’t smile but i’ll show you my teeth” even when migos said “dance with my dogs in the night time” the essence of the dog runs through you. you’re tough and a quick draw on the outside, but if we got down to it we’d see you’re acting the only way you’ve ever known how. it doesn’t make you bad, survival is natural, your loyalty and determination is commendable. i don’t blame you for the way you act when your back is against a wall, but please remember to not bite the hand that feeds.
