41 . green light, yellow light, red light (written)
you were with manon and megan downing jell-o shots when aeri showed up, and it didn't take much convincing before she gave in and joined you. the music from outside thumped faintly through the walls.
manon was in red for some reason, claiming she was "taken for already" by somebody, which immediately reminded you of that rant she went on weeks ago about being stuck on the same person. megan stood next to you in green, the two of you basically matching without even planning it, while aeri had reluctantly switched into yellow after you convinced her to ditch the green jacket she originally had on.
"oh what the fuck," aeri said immediately after downing her first jell-o shot, her face scrunching up.
"oh yeah, there might've been no measuring done," manon admitted.
"i looked away for one second," you said, staring at her.
"i don't see people complaining," manon gestured vaguely toward the rest of the room, where people were very clearly having a good time.
"i am, this shit's straight vodka," aeri said.
"you'll be fine," manon said.
"lowkey these are dangerous," you laughed.
"you say that like you're not about to take another one," megan said, raising an eyebrow.
"mind your business," you replied, already picking one up.
"see? enabler," aeri pointed at you.
"you're here voluntarily," you shot back.
"barely," she muttered, but took another one anyway.
"exactly, drink up," manon clapped her hands.
before you could say anything else, you caught a flash of yellow walking in, and your head snapped toward the doorway.
"you're wearing yellow!" you exclaimed.
"well it is complicated," ning said, shrugging as she walked over.
"oh my god, i love you so much," you cheered, immediately reaching for her.
"you're already drunk," ning laughed.
"manon and sophia made the jell-o shots heavy as hell, be warned," you said.
"who is— y'know what, never mind," ning shook her head, eyeing the tray cautiously.
"so it is complicated," aeri leaned over toward ning, squinting at her outfit.
"don't start," ning glanced at her.
"i'm not starting anything," aeri said, already starting something.
"you're literally wearing yellow too," ning pointed out.
"and you're talking to me now," aeri shot back.
you looked between them, already smiling. "holyyy..."
"can't tell if they're gonna fuck or fight," megan leaned in closer to you.
"probably both," you shurgged.
"can we bet on this?" manon asked as she turned toward you.
"you want money on the end of the night or a specific time?" you asked, raising an eyebrow at her.
"i think before the party's over, i just feel like they'll leave early for reasons," megan said, dragging out the last word.
"see that sounds right," you nodded.
"okay, i'm saying thirty minutes," manon said confidently. "they argue, disappear, and then we don't see them again."
"thirty is crazy," you laughed. "give them at least a couple of hours, they need buildup."
"i'm with y/n," megan said. "it's gonna be dramatic slow burn."
"slow burn?" manon repeated, looking between the two of you. "you guys have no faith in their tension."
"yeah, but they get off on the tension" you said, nodding toward aeri and ning.
"like look at them," megan gestured subtly.
aeri had her arms crossed as ning spoke, leaning in just enough that her shoulder brushed aeri's.
"thirty minutes," manon doubled down, grabbing another jell-o shot like she was placing a bet with it. "i'm telling you right now."
"two hours," you said, picking yours up too.
"hour and a half," megan added.
you turned back just in time to see aeri grab ning's wrist.
"oh?" you leaned forward.
ning eventually pulled away, dragging her hand through her hair before making a beeline straight for you.
"aeri's pissing me off. come with me," she said.
"me?" you pointed at yourself.
"i don't wanna piss her off too bad, and she won't care as much if it's you," ning shrugged.
"...thank you?" you said slowly.
"we're gonna do body shots."
"we're doing what?" you blinked.
"don't act brand new," ning grabbed your wrist and started pulling you anyway.
"hey—ning—hold on—what does that even mean for me in this situation?" you laughed, stumbling after her.
"it means you're hot and useful."
"so you're friends with y/n?" the girl next to lara asked casually, sipping from her cup.
"yeah, we've been friends for a couple of years now," lara answered, nodding.
"bro, lucky," the girl said with a small laugh. "y/n's like... my ideal type."
lara paused for half a second, glancing at her. "that's fair. she looks great," she admitted easily, not thinking much of it.
"what i'd do for her to give me a chance," the girl went on.
"too bad she's straight," lara huffed out a quiet laugh.
the girl turned to look at her fully this time, eyebrows lifting in disbelief. "y/n? straight? don't make me laugh."
lara frowned slightly, thrown off. "what do you mean? doesn't she, like... strictly date frat boys?"
"i mean, she used to date ni-ki, but that was a long time ago," the girl said, shrugging. "now she dates ning and giselle."
lara just... stared at her. for a second, she genuinely thought she'd misheard. because what did that even mean?
the girl she had known for years, her best friend, someone she thought she understood completely, apparently had an entire side of her life that lara had never even considered. not only did you like girls, but according to this random girl at a party, you had dated more girls than lara herself. and you had never told her.
meanwhile, everyone else here seemed to know.
lara swallowed, trying to keep her expression neutral even as her thoughts started spiraling. "is this like... common knowledge?" she asked carefully.
"i've known since we met; she's never been shy about it," the girl nodded without hesitation.
"you guys met first year, right?" lara pressed.
lara hummed softly, her mind racing as she tried to piece everything together.
there was a brief pause before the girl smiled again, clearly unaware of the internal crisis she'd just triggered. "you seem pretty cool, though. can i get your instagram?"
"yeah—yeah, of course," lara said quickly, pulling out her phone.
they exchanged information, and just like that, the girl drifted off into the crowd, leaving lara standing there alone in her thoughts.
confusing in a way she couldn't immediately sort out. her thoughts looped back to what the girl had said, about you, about ning, about aeri, and then, almost involuntarily, to something ning herself had said earlier. "okay, well none of us are straight, so that doesn't even make sense in our case."
at the time, lara hadn't really processed it. it had just sounded like another passing comment, something easy to brush off in the moment. but now it clicked in a way that made her stomach drop slightly.
suddenly, a lot of things started to make sense all at once. the way you acted around ning and aeri. the subtle touches, the inside jokes, the way manon would act whenever lara casually referred to you as straight, like she was holding back a comment she wasn't sure she should make. even all those jokes you used to make; things lara had always brushed off as you just being a really comfortable, really supportive ally. except now, it didn't feel like jokes anymore. it felt like lara had just been the only one not in on it.
"damn..." she muttered under her breath, running a hand through her hair.
she needed a drink. no—she needed multiple drinks.
and then she needed to find you and have a very real, very serious conversation, because there was no way she was just going to let this sit without hearing it from you directly. was this what you were going to tell her tonight?
lara exhaled slowly, shaking her head as she reached for the nearest drink she could find. you two were definitely going to talk.
meanwhile, you had somehow ended up with ning at a table for body shots, not that it took much convincing. at this point, you were just going along with whatever anyone suggested, because you had definitely crossed the line where independent decision-making was still a thing.
"am i doing it, or are you?" ning asked once you reached the table, tilting her head at you.
you laughed, already climbing up without hesitation. "oh, i've been waiting to be laid out for you again."
"y'all are so freaked out," manon said from the side, shaking her head, even though she clearly wasn't looking away.
"you wanna join?" ning asked her, barely glancing over.
"maybe next time," manon replied.
you adjusted yourself on the table, tugging your shirt down just enough to give ning access, your head already a little light from the alcohol.
"oh, i have to see this," aeri's voice cut in as she appeared out of nowhere.
"i get y/n today," ning said, a little too smugly, shooting aeri a quick glance—one that definitely lingered longer than it needed to.
"it's fine," you said casually. "we made out the other day."
"you did what?" ning's head snapped toward you.
"in my defense, she invited me over," aeri added quickly, holding her hands up.
"and you didn't tell me?" ning pouted, looking genuinely offended now.
"you wouldn't have answered my texts," aeri shot back.
"well yeah, but i would've answered y/n's," ning argued immediately.
"okay—old news," you cut in quickly, laughing nervously as you looked between them. "let's focus on the present."
ning huffed but turned back to you, grabbing the salt and shaking a line of it along your collarbone. the second her lips touched your skin, you sucked in a sharp breath, your head tipping back slightly as the alcohol hit you all over again.
she dragged her tongue along the salt slowly, taking her time like she knew exactly what she was doing, and you could hear aeri moving beside her, already preparing the next step. ning leaned back just enough for aeri to pour the shot into her mouth, then took the lime from her without even looking. they worked together way too smoothly.
by the time ning swallowed, you were already a little dizzy, your fingers gripping the edge of the table as you tried to steady yourself. you started to sit up, assuming it was over, but ning's hand came up to stop you, pressing lightly against your shoulder.
"i'm not done yet," she said, her voice lower this time.
before you could respond, she cupped your face in both hands, her thumbs tracing along your jaw as she tilted your head back just slightly. her touch was slower now, more deliberate, and you felt your breath hitch as she leaned down again, this time to the space just under your chin.
her lips were softer now, less teasing, more intentional. you let out a quiet sound before you could stop yourself, your hands coming up to grab onto her shoulders for balance as she kissed along your neck, her tongue brushing over your skin again.
you felt the faint sprinkle of salt before she dipped down once more, and your grip on her tightened instinctively, your head spinning for more reasons than one.
somewhere beside her, aeri was already handing off another shot. ning didn't even hesitate, she grabbed it, knocked it back quickly, and leaned away like nothing had just happened.
"i take it back, i wanna join," manon said immediately the second you finally sat up, clearly rethinking all her life decisions.
"okay, but why are y'all so hot?" megan added, staring at the three of you.
"it's all them," you laughed, shrugging as you sat up.
"no, it's all of us," aeri corrected, smirking slightly.
"fuck, i love tequila," ning muttered.
"she was just using me as an excuse to drink more," you joked, leaning back slightly as the dizziness caught up to you again.
"we should do one," aeri suggested casually.
"do one with yunjin," ning shot back instantly, rolling her eyes.
"she's not even here, bro," aeri sighed.
"of course you know that," ning said under her breath.
"they're so annoying," you whispered to megan, who let out a quiet laugh at your failed attempt to be subtle.
"can y'all just go angry fuck and get it over with?" you groaned, shaking your head.
"i'd be down," aeri said immediately.
"you gotta earn that," ning shot back, crossing her arms.
as they launched into yet another argument, you turned away, already over it, and leaned into megan, letting your full weight rest against her as the room tilted slightly.
"i'm such a nice drunk right now," you mumbled into her shoulder. "but i feel like i could drink more without blacking out."
megan wrapped an arm loosely around your waist, steadying you. "that's what people say right before they black out."
"bro, you're not on my level, and that's kinda fucked up," you said, lifting your head just enough to look at manon.
"listen, one of us has to be sober," manon replied.
"wasn't gonna be me," megan added.
"i'm literally offering my couch so you don't have to drive home," you said.
"what about me?" megan pouted, turning her head toward you.
"well, you can use my bed," you said, nuzzling into her shoulder again without thinking.
"i'm scared to be in a room with y'all," manon said immediately.
"joining is allowed," you shot back lazily.
"still freaked out," she muttered.
"i might drink when lara gets here and then convince her to drive us home," manon added.
"oh my god—lara. she's supposed to be here," your head lifted instantly.
"i'm sure she'll be here soon," megan said, her hand absentmindedly patting your waist.
"i'm gonna go to the bathroom and maybe call her," manon said, already backing away.
"you want company?" you asked, blinking up at her.
"nah, you guys stay and have fun," she waved you off.
"if you're sure," megan said.
"call me if you want me to come find you," you added.
manon gave a quick wave before disappearing into the crowd, leaving you and megan alone.
you pulled back just enough to look at her properly, your expression suddenly brightening.
"megan," you said, grabbing her shoulders lightly. "do body shots with me."
"i'm scared to go after that," she blinked at you, immediately shaking her head.
"don't be nervous; it's just me," you smiled, a little softer this time, tilting your head.
once manon stepped out of the bathroom, she barely made it a few steps before she quite literally ran into the exact person she'd been looking for.
"lara—you're here!" she exclaimed, immediately grabbing her arm.
"yeah," lara said, a little breathless. "nobody would answer me. i only got in because some of the frat guys recognized me from last night."
manon let out a short laugh, shaking her head. "that tracks. i literally don't even know where my phone is right now."
"do you know where y/n is?" lara glanced around quickly.
manon hesitated for just a second too long. "oh... we were all together a while ago," she said, her eyes flicking around the room.
"that's not helpful," lara said.
"i mean—she's around here somewhere," manon tried, offering a weak shrug.
"yeah. clearly," lara let out a quiet sigh, running a hand through her hair.
there was a pause, awkward and slightly heavy, before manon forced a small smile.
"do you want jell-o shots, though?" she asked, gesturing vaguely behind her. "we put, like... a lot of effort into those."
"i just really wanna find y/n."
"and i'm sure we will," manon said quickly, already starting to steer her by the arm. "if we're by the jell-o shots."
lara glanced at her, not fully convinced, but let herself be guided anyway.
manon, meanwhile, tried very hard to ignore the very obvious irritation radiating off of her.
"you ready for me?" you asked.
"mmhmm," megan nodded right away, already easing herself back onto the table.
a smirk tugged at your mouth as you poured a line of alcohol along her stomach, the room immediately erupting into cheers that only made everything feel louder, brighter, more chaotic. you leaned down without hesitation, dragging your tongue through the trail in a slow stripe. the reaction around you spiked instantly, people laughing, yelling, crowding in closer now that they realized what was happening.
you shifted closer, climbing onto the table fully now, straddling megan as the noise around you grew even louder.
"oh you're so hot on top of me," megan said, grinning up at you like she was completely unbothered by the attention.
"and you look amazing underneath me," you shot back without missing a beat.
you leaned down again, this time tracing the path of alcohol up her neck, catching the salt along the way. megan shivered the moment your breath hit just under her ear, and you smiled against her skin before lightly biting down near it and pulling back just enough to speak.
"less," she managed, but the word fell apart halfway through.
"just ignore everybody else," you murmured, voice softer now. "it's only you and me right now."
megan nodded, and you hovered closer, your lips inches from hers as the noise of the party faded into something distant.
"are you okay with this?" you asked, quieter this time.
"yes, please," she said immediately and that was all you needed.
you closed the distance, starting slow, her bottom lip first, then the top, tilting your head just slightly to deepen it. megan followed easily, her hands finding you without hesitation as the kiss lingered longer than it probably should've in a room full of people.
what you didn't see was lara pushing through the crowd, getting closer with every second, until she finally caught a clear enough angle to understand exactly what she was looking at.
you pulled back after a moment, breath a little uneven, and helped megan sit up as both of you laughed softly.
"you're a really good kisser," megan said, still smiling.
"does that mean you wanna kiss more?" you teased, eyebrows lifting.
"maybe..." she said, glancing away, suddenly shy in a way that didn't match the earlier confidence at all. but then her gaze shifted to something behind you and her expression dropped.
"y/n..." she said under her breath. "we're so cooked."
"huh?" you blinked, following her gaze.
it took you a second to process the direction she was looking in. and then you saw lara standing there, and she had obviously seen a good amount of what happened based on her expression.
"...oh shit," you muttered immediately.
"hey," lara gave a small, tight smile.
"when did you get here?" you asked, wiping at your mouth like that would somehow fix the situation.
"a couple minutes ago," she replied. "i texted you."
"oh—shit. my bad. i was a little distracted."
"i can tell," she said, letting out a quiet, humorless laugh.
megan immediately slid off the table. "i, um—yeah, i should go freshen up," she said quickly, not waiting for anyone to respond before disappearing into the crowd.
"that bitch," you muttered under your breath, watching her vanish.
then you turned back to lara. she was still looking at you in that same unreadable way, arms loosely crossed.
"...you wanna go get a drink and head outside?" you offered carefully.
"yeah. we should," she nodded.
you reached for her hand, a little unsteady but steady enough, and led her through the house, grabbing two drinks on the way before pushing out into the backyard, where the noise was less loud.
for a moment, neither of you spoke until lara broke it.
"uhm, yeah," you said, taking a sip. "we kinda just hang out sometimes."
"that's nice," lara nodded slowly.
"it kinda just happened," you continued, trying to find the right words even as your head still felt foggy. "megan had my instagram, and then we just started hanging out, and then it turned into... this."
"and it's not like we didn't wanna tell you," you added. "megan said you didn't really... agree with it."
"so everybody lied to me?" she asked flatly.
"nobody lied," you said quickly. "you just never asked."
"oh, thanks," she replied, rolling her eyes.
"i never wanted you to feel like we were hiding it from you or anything," you went on. "megan and i literally just became friends on our own."
"i just don't understand why it had to happen behind my back," she said, her voice sharper now.
"because megan said you weren't allowing it," you explained. "and i was just respecting that."
lara let out a short, disbelieving laugh. "i literally told megan not to hit on you."
"i mean, she hit on me before she even knew we were friends," you said.
"yet she didn't stop," lara replied immediately.
"why do you even care if she hits on me?" you asked, a little more defensively than you meant to.
"because you're fucking straight," she said, exhaling sharply. "and i didn't want her getting hurt."
"...but you wouldn't even let us be friends," you said, quieter now.
"because you flirt with everyone, and megan's sweet," she said. "and i didn't want her falling for you or something."
"well that didn't happen, no matter how much i flirt with her," you shrugged lightly.
"you sure about that?" lara gave you a look.
"you literally just did a body shot with her and kissed her," she said, voice flat.
"that was... an in-the-moment thing," you insisted.
"right," she repeated, like she didn't believe a word of it.
"everyone kisses after body shots," you added quickly. "it's like... a thing here."
"whatever. i don't even care," she said.
"then why do you still seem mad?" you asked.
lara let out a breath through her nose, running a hand through her hair. "because i just found out a lot of stuff about my best friend all at once, and it's kind of messing with my head right now."
"what stuff?" you softened a little.
she looked at you for a second, then shook her head. "i think you should tell me."
"i mean... give me a hint?" you tried.
"since when did you like girls?" she asked.
"oh. that," your expression shifted immediately.
"...a while," you admitted awkwardly.
"i heard you've been dating girls since freshman year," she added.
"who told you that?" you asked quickly.
you hesitated. "...i guess not. everybody kinda knows."
"everybody?" lara repeated, incredulous. "so everybody except me."
"you never asked," you said again.
"because you never told me you were interested in girls," she shot back. "how long has this even been going on?"
"i didn't really start seriously dating until college," you said honestly.
"does megan know?" she asked. your hesitation answered for you.
"oh my god," lara's eyes narrowed.
"...so manon knows too," she muttered. "of course. everyone knows except me."
"it's not like that," you said quickly. "it's just... when you came out, i didn't want to take away from that moment. i didn't know how to bring it up without making it weird."
lara stared at you for a second, then shook her head. "i would've shared that with you. i would've been happy you felt comfortable telling me."
"well... you know now," you said softly.
"wow," she replied. "thanks. however many fucking years later."
"i'm sorry you had to find out like this," you said honestly. "i had a whole plan to tell you in private, i just... got distracted."
then she exhaled, quieter now, "so what, you're gonna date megan now?"
your head snapped up immediately, "oh—no. no, we wouldn't."
"hard to believe after what i just saw."
"it was just... kissing," you insisted. "it didn't mean anything."
"...it didn't?" she asked.
"i mean—no. i kiss people all the time. it's not like that."
"so kissing means nothing to you?" lara's expression tightened just slightly.
you hesitated, then shrugged. "not really, no."
"okay," she said quietly. the way she said it made something in your stomach shift.
you let out a quiet breath, rubbing the back of your neck. "i just meant... it's not always that serious. like, sometimes it's just—fun. it doesn't have to mean something."
"yeah. i gathered that," lara let out a small, humorless laugh.
you shifted your weight, suddenly very aware of how close you were standing, "you're taking this really... personally."
"i just found out my best friend has been hiding a huge part of herself from me for years," she said, her voice still controlled but tighter now. "and then i walk in and see her on top of one of my closest friends kissing them like it's nothing. i think i'm allowed to take it a little personally."
"that's not fair," you said quickly. "i wasn't hiding it—i just didn't know how to tell you."
"you've had years to figure it out," lara shot back.
"i didn't think it was a big deal!" you insisted. "who i date doesn't change anything between us."
"it kind of does when i'm the only one who didn't know," she replied.
you opened your mouth, then closed it again. she wasn't wrong...
"i wasn't trying to leave you out," you said finally, quieter now.
"but you did," lara said.
lara exhaled slowly, looking down at her drink before speaking again. "and it's not even just that."
she hesitated, like she was debating whether or not to say it, "you act like none of it means anything," she said finally. "kissing people, flirting with them, it's just whatever to you."
"i mean... yeah? sometimes it is," you frowned slightly.
"okay, but it's not like that for everyone," she said, glancing up at you again. "you know that, right?"
"i don't lead people on," you shifted, uncomfortable now.
"i didn't say you did," she replied. "but you don't exactly make it clear either."
"that's not my fault if people assume things," you said, a little defensive again.
"see! that's exactly what i mean."
"you keep brushing it off like it's nothing," she said. "but it clearly is something. megan didn't look like that meant nothing."
"that was just—" you started, then stopped again.
"i don't know," you admitted, getting frustrated with all her questions. "it was just the vibes. it doesn't have to turn into something bigger than that."
"maybe not for you," she said quietly.
you ran a hand through your hair, exhaling. "so what are you actually mad about right now?"
"i don't even know," she said honestly. "part of it is the lying—or, whatever you want to call it. part of it is just... feeling stupid for not noticing. and part of it—" she stopped, shaking her head.
"nothing," she said letting out a short breath.
"it's nothing," she repeated, more firmly this time, taking another sip of her drink.
"you don't get to do that," you said. "you can't say it's something and then just drop it."
"i can if i don't feel like getting into it right now," she replied.
"because i'm already annoyed," she said bluntly. "and if i say the rest of it, i'm probably gonna sound worse."
you let out a quiet laugh, "worse than what? accusing me of hiding my entire identity from you?"
"that's not what i said."
"it's basically what you meant," you muttered.
you two sat in silence for a second before lara spoke up, "you really don't think kissing means anything?"
"i mean... it depends," you said slowly. "sometimes it does. sometimes it doesn't."
"and that one?" she asked, holding your gaze.
"...i don't know," you admitted.
"okay," lara said finally, "i think we should both take a breather from each other for the time being."
you swallowed whatever immediate reaction you had, forcing your shoulders into a loose shrug as you took a couple gulps from your drink. "if that's what you want."
"i'm also gonna go home," she added.
"wait—no, let me call you an uber," you said, already pulling your phone out.
"y/n, i haven't been here long enough to get drunk," lara said, giving you a look.
"i don't wanna take any risk," you insisted, holding out your free hand. "matter of fact, give me your keys so i can give them back tomorrow. i don't even know why you drank if you drove here—"
"i wasn't going to," she cut in, exhaling. "but then i needed to. because of... everything."
still, she handed over her keys, since she knew arguing with you right now was pointless.
"okay," you muttered, glancing at your phone. "she's five minutes away. let's go to the front."
without really thinking about it, you reached for her hand again, guiding her through the crowd. once you got outside, you stood there together, neither of you really knowing what to say, just listening to the quiet hum of cars passing by.
"text me when you get home," you opened the car door when it pulled up. "or megan, or even manon, just... let someone know."
"will do," lara nodded before getting in the car.
you watched the car pull away, your hand still loosely holding her keys, your phone still open on the app long after the taillights disappeared.
"...well," you muttered to yourself after a second. "that sobered me up."
you headed back inside, looking around for literally anybody. you hadn't really seen any of the boys all night. ning and aeri were... yeah, definitely gone by now. megan and manon were who knows where by now..
"yeah, no," you muttered. "i need more."
you downed what was left, tossed the bottle somewhere that was probably a trash can, and made your way over.
"of course you're here," sunghoon said as he walked up beside you.
you didn't even look at him at first, just kept staring into the cooler like something new would appear if you looked long enough. "there's nothing here that's strong."
"i've got a couple bottles in my room," he offered casually.
"you wanna take some shots in your room?" you turned to him slowly, a sweet smile on your face.
"hell yeah," he said immediately, completely unaware of everything you were going through currently.
"oh my god, i haven't been in here in so long," you said, glancing around.
"bro, i remember when we took shots in here before that joint chapter," sunghoon laughed, already reaching for something on his shelf.
"and it helped," you nodded. "the alcohol made me lock in and just say what everybody wanted to hear."
"exactly," he said, pulling down a bottle of hennessy and setting it on the desk before grabbing a couple of shot glasses. "academic weapons."
"please," you scoffed. "i carried us."
"yeah, okay," he laughed, pouring the first round. "cheers to that."
you clinked your glass against his and knocked it back, the burn hitting your throat instantly.
"okay—yeah, that's what i needed," you exhaled, setting the glass down.
"told you," he said, pouring another. "so where've you been all night? i feel like i haven't seen you."
"floating," you said vaguely. "jell-o shots, body shots, dancing... the usual."
"so basically you've been everywhere except where i wasn't," sunghoon snorted, shaking his head as he slid the second shot toward you.
"sounds like a you problem," you shot back, nudging his shoulder lightly before picking up the glass.
"at least the jell-o shots were a hit," he pointed out. "i saw at least three people fighting for their lives out there."
"i barely had any say over that, actually," you said. "i let sophia and manon measure with their hearts."
"yeah, i can tell," he muttered, pouring another round but this time watching you a little more closely.
"for the record," he added, leaning back against the desk, "if i black out tonight, i'm blaming you."
"you'd survive," you said, knocking the shot back. "you always do."
"debatable," he laughed. "last time you said that, i woke up in someone else's hoodie with no memory of how i got there."
"that's just part of the experience," you shrugged.
"yeah, well, some of us like remembering our nights," he shot back as you grabbed the bottle again.
