Like every US president before and after, Jimmy Carter worked to enlarge the profits of US corporations at the expense of the people.

He increased the share of US tax dollars spent on war. He made sure the banks got interest on their loans while workers starved from high prices. Where it was necessary to terrorize people in order to enforce the rule of foreign capital--as in Afghanistan--Carter obliged with rocket launchers and cash.

The CIA's Operation Cyclone is the undisguised legacy of the so-called peace-loving Jimmy Carter. Everywhere workers and oppressed people strive to build a better life for themselves, the capitalist government of the US intervenes with violence to 'serve and protect' the thieves at the top of the Fortune 500.

Wikileaks exposed the following state dept memo written by Hillary Clinton in 2012, around the same time Clinton was giving interviews publicly celebrating the lynching of Muammar Gaddafi at the hands of US funded 'rebels.' The 'rebels' tearing down sovereign Syria today are executing Clinton's plans to a tee, to the delight of the billionaires that she, Biden, Trump, and Netanyahu work for.

Before the US/NATO destruction of Libya, the country had the highest standard of living in Africa, including state subsidized housing and a national health system. More than 7,700 bombs were dropped on Libya in 2011. The country's basic infrastructure was devastated and any nationalized wealth was looted, as is being done with US bombs and mercenary forces in Syria today.

Because the independent government of Libya did not bow to dictates of imperialist banks, US/NATO forces turned Libya into a living hell torn apart by warlords, complete with open air slave markets. This is the path that US/NATO forces and their mercenaries are leading Syria down today.

New Orleans abortion rights protest blocks busy Bourbon St.

New Orleans, Sept. 10 — Today the Louisiana Abortion Rights Action Committee held a demonstration and march downtown. Signs and hand-outs read, “Raise the wages, lower the rent, abortion access now,” highlighting the intersection of all these issues affecting poor and working people. Abortion access is a working-class issue.

Over a megaphone, one organizer said: “If you’re wondering why we’re stopping traffic, the reason is that our lives—our right to exist with bodily autonomy, free from oppression, free from violence—is under attack! And whether you’re out there working or drinking, you are involved! Join us! Take a flier!”

A Shreveport abortion provider has won a temporary injunction against the Louisiana trigger law to ban all abortions. It took immediate effect and they reopened their clinic.

On July 8 they will be arguing against the right-wing, racist Attorney General Landry's office to seek a permanent injunction.

This bold move should be supported by all who can turn out in front of the court on July 8th. Even if a permanent injunction is granted based on the law being unconstitutionally vague, it will not stop the Louisiana legislature from redrafting the law.

But every act of resistance can save lives and needs visible support as we continue to build an even bigger and more defiant mass movement to restore abortion rights and unite the many struggles necessary to push back the billionaire-funded right wing.

Activists shutting down the streets for abortion rights

More than 150 people took the fight to restore abortion rights to the streets of New Orleans July 8. We rallied outside the courthouse to send a message to the oil industry-puppet AG Landry and his millionaire cronies: we will not let them go forward with their war on women, trans people, and all workers. We shut down both Canal St. and Loyola Ave. to tell them we’re done with business as usual. As well as the fight for abortion rights, protesters also called for justice for Jayland Walker and Ronald Greene, murdered by racist police in Ohio and Louisiana, and for an end to attacks on LGBTQ people, immigrants, and other attacks on workers.
