Happy 16th Birthday Kingdom Hearts! To celebrate, I decided to draw my favourite character Xion. This is also for the #XionLivesChallenge on Tumblr, in celebration of Project Destati's new album, Darkness, which coincidentally was also released today. I was specifically inspired by two tracks from the album, Project Destati's rendition of Xion, and their rendition of Sacred Moon. Both of them are beautiful, haunting and wonderful pieces. I especially love their version of Xion, with how they capture her story in musical form. The blending of melodies from various tracks such as Roxas and At Dusk, I Will Think of You had me tearing up. In this piece, I wanted to depict Xion and her resolve to help destroy everything Xemnas built. Even if she was made to be a puppet, she won't let that stop her. Watch out Xehanort. Xion lives, and she isn't afraid to take you down.

18 - Critical Drive - #XionLives Challenge

~Berserker Xion~

This battle theme is so good! When Roxas’s theme kicks in at about 1:30 it’s just *clutches heart*. those piano scales? *chef kiss noise* all those trills?AH!

The castle That Never Was has the best architecture, and this boss chamber is amazing, so here is Xion getting ready to repay Siax for being rude.

11 - Sacred Moon - #XionLives Challenge

~A place that was once home~

The themes for the last worlds in the kingdom hearts games are always such intense tunes. This cover of Sacred Moon is upsetting beautiful. it feels both holy and hollow. At times its hard to imagine that this other worldly theme, with its swelling themes, soft tunes and the way it sparkles in your mind, is the soundtrack of a world of hollow individuals. 

Its also hard to imagine living in such a place, but this was the home for many of our much loved characters, including Xion. This theme had me wondering what it would be like to return to this cold and beautiful home, which resembles more of a graveyard as it empties through the events of KH2

07 - Night of Fate - #XionLives Challenge

Night of Fate has always been such a powerful theme in the kingdom hearts and @projectdestati  continue to twist it and add to it until it’s even more emotive. I can’t get over the way they mixed in part of the destiny island theme into the beginning and as much as I kind of wanted to do something cute to honour that, I desperately needed to draw something that reflected my intense satisfaction of playing as a tiny child fighting the giant monster that is destroying our home.
