Eugene knew he had been spending a lot of time at work which was not like him. He was always the dad that was there for drop off and pick up.. always there for every soccer game, recital, speech. Now that his girls were young adults he was still there every day after school/work/whatever for whenever they needed but since the christmas season was always so busy he had been working a little more and figured he needed to make it up to the girls.. not just his babies but wife to. So Eugene had made a point to take each of them out separately that week for dinner so he could get some some to catch up. Tonight was Rosie’s night. He waited for her to get home so they could get going to the restaurant.

Patch decided that after a night of drinking that he’d do his good dead for the day and head down to the animal shelter where he often volunteered. He was put in the back room to help with the dog grooming. He waited for them to bring in the dogs, but was told someone else would be helping him that day. A girl walked in, that he had seen there a few times before. “Hey.” He spoke with his signature smile. “You are Rosie right?” He questioned, they hadn’t talked to many times before, since they had never been put on the same task but had spoken briefly in the past.

Rainy had a day off, which was bizarre for her these days. She spent the morning in her bed with a coffee and a book. Around noon she was starting to get hungry but she only had a few more chapters left. Her thought were interrupted by her phone ringing. She picked it up to see her friend Rosie was calling. “Hey Rosie.” She spoke setting her book down on the bedside table. “What’s up?” It wasn’t unusual for them to speak on the phone, often they called each other just to chat. Rainy welcomed the phone call, since she hadn’t made any other plans for the day.
