@epicwrites said | [ DRAMATICS ] for a near death experience to drive receiver to confess their feelings to sender.
it had been a stupid idea to go out - she was trying to give colette space, to give her sister time to finish recouping, to take her spot so that the other supply runners wouldn’t complain about being down a person. vic had probably agreed to go because yale had signed up - or because he just never processed what had happened before, but she was grateful for him.
it had never been like this when she was on her own. one or two, maybe, here or there. but she’d had a bike, and she’d been able to speed off faster than they could catch up.
they’d managed to fight them off, but she was shaken - more than she would have ever liked to admit. one had gotten close - too close, really, for her to be comfortable with. she wouldn’t cry - she wouldn’t cry - but she was literally shaking, and maybe there were tears, and maybe she was clinging too tight to vic but she couldn’t bring herself to care.
“thank you,” she mumbled, her words barely audible against his shoulder - he had been the one to save her, to get her free, to keep her safe. “thank you, thank you, thank you,” she kept saying it over and over, like a mantra - if she said it enough, maybe it would bring her back to reality. “i’m so glad you’re here, i’m so - “ she turned her face, eyes wide and earnest as she took his face in her hands, the words tumbling out before she could stop them - “you know i love you, right?”
@mctionsick said | “ god, if you don’t take your clothes off, i’m gonna have to tear them off, myself… “
Yale let out a laugh; she couldn’t help it, but he was hardly as fierce as he thought he was. “Oh, you’re going to tear them off of me?” she taunted, tossing her bag on the floor, pulling her jacket tighter around herself. His place was big - huge - and considering that she had a 20 something to support, he wasn’t exactly a bad new target for herself. “What if I said I was only interested in you for your connections to Hollywood?” she teased, looking at everything in his apartment except for him.

yale jacobson was a surprise to the world from the very beginning. her mother, ann jacobson, had the world at her feet before she got pregnant at 17, having to defer from her dream of attending the east coast ivy league school in order to raise her newborn daughter. the father left braedon, promising to come back with a college degree and a ring, but instead he was never heard from again - leaving ann, and her toddler daughter, with no one to turn to.
she always knew that her mother was different from the rest of the mothers her peers had; while they had dinner at 5pm every day and a steady nuclear family, yale was lucky if she wasn’t pawned off on her grandparents, her mother off trying to find some man with enough money to take both her and yale in with him. there were times she’d find what she later realized were drugs around the house, the faint odor of something unfamiliar in the air when she came home from school, and yale did her best to stay away from their shabby house as often as she could.
but there wasn’t much else to do in braedon, and it wasn’t too long before she started heading down the same path as her mother. sex, drugs and rock and roll were easier to indulge in than to accept the sheer boredom of suburban life, especially without any distractions aside from the neighbors and whatever cigarettes she could snake from the local gas station.
it was even easier to get away with once her mother had her hands full with another baby - instead of focusing on the teenager, ann focused entirely on colette, almost as if yale was a lost cause already and she could redo parenthood right the second time around. from what yale could see, there was no real hope - but she was out the door the second her diploma was in hand, heading for chicago with a dream to write, and to forget about her past in any capacity she could.
coming back to braedon was never her intention, but after an ‘unfortunate accident’ that killed her mother, yale needs to come and make sure colette’s taken care of. while her younger sister is an adult herself at this point, that doesn’t mean she’s ever been on her own - and, selfishly, with all the drama surrounding the town of braedon for the first time in her history, she’s hoping to write a ground breaking piece of journalism about her hometown before she says ‘au revoir’ to it once and for all.

colt fischer // yale was always taught that the best way to misbehave was with a man on your side, and during her high school years, colt was just that guy for yale. as close as they could be to ‘dating’ without labeling themselves as such, yale gave up all her firsts to colt in the bed of his truck their sophomore year, and being around him tends to make her want to act out just a little bit more. she knows he hasn’t changed much - especially if the way he eyes her own sister is any indication. she’s staying wary of him, but when the isolation of braedon makes her feel like crawling out of her skin, it’s inevitable that he’ll be who she turns to. fiona lindman // they were next door neighbors growing up, and while fiona has her own place now, she’s the only good thing yale really thinks exists in braedon. while she’s not exactly thrilled to be back in her small town, she’s secretly relieved fiona never made it out of the city limits - being stuck there without her would be a fate worse than hell, and yale’s grateful to have her best friend by her side once again.
