Yúcahu is NOT the Supreme Deity of the Taíno people.  ATABEY is.  And together, they make up Yaya, the Great Spirit.  Believing that Yúcahu is the Supreme Deity stems from colonialist Catholic misogyny.  Our people KNEW that only a female entity can be a Creator.  Stop letting the 500 years since Spanish Catholic imperialism make you think otherwise.

Sept 19, HHM daily sketch day 5! Did a quick sketch of the two benevolent chieftain Dieties of Taino mythology. Atabey, mother goddess of fertility and fresh island water, and her son Yocahu, god of agriculture and the sea. Taino heritage and influences can be found mixed in with the modern culture of Puerto Rico (as well as through the the Carribean), in the foods we eat, the words we speak, the music we play, our instruments, the way we dance, and in our art.
