thank you for defending the hooked wayfinder ship, ive been getting a lot of "youre disgusting for shipping them" messages lately and its been really stressful.
Sweetie, over the past 15 years I’ve shipped Hermione with Snape, Beauty and the Beast, Rumplestiltskin and Belle, Tarrlok and Korra, Zuko and Katara, Snape and Luna, Sylar and Elle, Morgana and Captain Barbossa (whut it’s crack crossover), Rey and Kylo Ren, Hux and Phasma, Finn and Poe, and now Maui and Moana.
I’ve been hearing “you’re disgusting” for a long while, in various fandoms, but truthfully, most of the people responding that way are immature, and most people in real life honestly don’t give a shit what you ship as long as it makes you happy.
I love my ships to have a hard time getting together. I love slow burn. I love it when they’re on other sides of a conflict. I love it when society raises an eyebrow at them being together. I love them starting out as frenemies. I love it when they defeat the evil in the world. I love it when someone needs to see beyond appearances. I love it when their love brings people around them closer together too. I love good character arcs. I love byronic heroes. I love booksmart heroines. I love redemption arcs.
There isn’t anything disgusting about any of those things. I don’t think you’re disgusting for trying to keep your mind entertained with a controversial or complicated ship.
My five year old nephew finds all romances disgusting. That’s his response to characters kissing in movies - disgust. Some people never truly get past that stage. They will only allow affection or romance if it’s between people of the same age, who come from very similar backgrounds. Heaven forbid when there’s any reason why the characters shouldn’t be together, and they’re still trying to get together.
Those are the same folks that will sneer at you if you ever end up in a relationship with an older man, no matter how happy you are. They have no imagination and only judgement ready for you.
IMO, they can go and fuck themselves and mind their own business instead.
