S and T because they’re my favorite letters :3 (for the alphabet ask)
STAR TREK! I’ve been watching Star Trek for 30 years, since The Next Generation came out. My favorite series, I would have to say, is Deep Space Nine. Favorite character is Data. I’m even a dork who loves the books. There have been some really great Star Trek books. Once Discovery is out, I’m really looking forward to watching the series. Because there is never enough Star Trek.
@zendelai also asked for the letter T.
Trees. A simple one, I know. But I love trees. Especially love trees in autumn, when the leaves are changing. One of the reasons I choose to drive out to the east coast two weeks ago was because I knew it would be a beautiful drive!
I've been thinking a lot lately about Kiara Hawke & Sebastian (because I love them so dearly). Could you tell me about a time Kiara caught Sebastian in a very Seb-like act of selflessness?
<3 (And happy birthday!!)

Hawke did a double-take when she saw the dark-cloaked stranger skulking from shadow to shadow away from the Chantry. She knew Sebastian Vael’s gait as well as she knew Fenris’ stalk or Isabela’s swagger or the way Varric’s left knee irritated him in the rain, and even though the cloak and the skulking were all wrong, she’d have bet a purse full of sovereigns the stranger was Sebastian. Something about the width of the shoulders beneath the cloak, perhaps. Or the color of the skin of the hand holding the cloak closed at his throat. Something about the fluidity of the progress across the square. Wrong, but right at the same time.
She squinted. Sebastian usually walked with his head up and his shoulders back. Even when he was on the Chantry’s business, he never quite lost the carriage that indicated Prince before Priest even registered. Moving into shadows of her own--she was far more accomplished a skulker than he, after all--she watched the hem of the cloak brush the white stones and followed it.
The squint became an outright frown when the stranger--no, Sebastian; she was certain it was Sebastian--entered the Blooming Rose without even a moment’s hesitation, pushing the door back and slipping through it swiftly. She hesitated just long enough that she had to open the door herself instead of catching it as it swung closed. She nearly lost him; more than one dark cloak hung from more than one set of shoulders in the Rose’s common room.
The one she was following, though, had unerringly headed for the stairs and was already halfway up the steps. She was close enough to see the hand on the bannister; close enough to know whose hand it was.
She had no bloody idea what he was doing at the Rose, though. Every time he mentioned his intriguingly sordid past (not often enough, as Isabela was always the first to point out), he spoke decidedly in the past tense.
Not that she noticed. Not that she thought about it at all. Not that it kept her up nights, wondering just how sordid that past was.
Not that she had, in moments of incredible weakness, thought Isabela, bemoaning not knowing him then, had the right of it.
Not that she was at all jealous of whomever brought him to the Blooming Rose, dark-cloaked and skulking.
For a moment, just a moment, she almost denied her curiosity and turned around again. She thought about it. For one really long moment. But her traitorous feet were already moving toward the stairs, and her traitorous eyes were already following the swish of the black cloak as it entered a room.
And left the door open, as if he didn’t care who walked in after him.
Didn’t care who saw what.
(She really wanted to see what. She just didn’t want to see his what with some other woman. Because of his vows. She respected those vows, didn’t she? She’d certainly told him she did. She had to believe that she did.)
Her cheeks heated.
She lingered at the door, trying to look nonchalant and listening as hard as she could.
“The same as last time, ser?” said a delicate female voice. Hawke hated that voice.
Especially when Sebastian replied, “Please. See that it’s well-spent.”
For all the cloak-and-skulking, Sebastian did nothing to change the tenor of his voice; his brogue was instantly recognizable. Hawke’s stomach twisted, then flipped, then took up residence somewhere near her biggest toe. She pushed away from the wall, not self-destructive enough to remain listening to whatever well-spent meant to Sebastian, and moved to cross back toward the stairs when Sebastian, still in the cloak, hood still pulled up around his face, bumped hard into her.
“Pardon m--” he began, only to choke out, in a slightly--but noticeably--higher pitch than usual, “Hawke?” before the floor could open up and swallow her whole.
At least his cheeks flushed, too. Hers felt roughly as hot as the interior heart of a smith’s forge fire.
She reached for a joke, a jest, a laugh, but her, “Come here often then?” emerged sounding like an accusation instead.
He reached up and rubbed the back of his neck, blush deepening instead of ebbing. “Forgive me,” he said, brogue roughening. “I--if you’ve an appointment to keep--I do not wish to detain you--”
“If I have an appointment to keep?” she asked (squawked. She squawked). Her hand, against her will, gestured at the doorway he’d so recently walked through. “I don’t want to keep you from your appointment.”
He tilted his head and frowned. “I’ve finished.”
She blinked. “That fast?”
He blinked. “It takes no time at all, Hawke.”
If she’d been standing next to a fireplace, it could hardly have given off more heat than her cheeks. Maybe a Rage demon.
He shifted from one foot to the other. “Unless you disapprove?”
“It’s hardly my place to approve or disapprove.”
“I did say you needn’t pay me. The Chantry sees to my needs.”
She shook her head, mouth slightly agape.
He raised his eyebrows. “The coin? From the Wounded Coast?” He indicated the room. “Carina distributes it amongst those who cannot bring themselves to the Chantry for aid.”
“Carina does.”
The shift of his expression told her he was worried. She half expected his hand to rise to her forehead to check for fever. “She works here, aye, but knows many in Darktown who’d as soon run from my white armor as accept my aid. I only... I only wish to help as I may.”
“So you bring her coin.”
“Hawke, are you quite well?”
The smile that pulled at her lips was a genuine one, and doused some small bit of the ashamed heat in her cheeks. “Of course. Of course I am. Only foolish.”
His smile echoed hers. Faint, she thought, and just a little sheepish. “I suppose you thought me some thief. Hardly foolish to follow someone lurking in shadows.” His gaze caught hers and held it. “Please don’t think it shame. I thought it easier, to stay as... anonymous as I could. There are those who will accept no help if they believe it comes with strings. I wished to avoid that.”
“Of course you did.”
“Hawke?”
She laughed softly. “Walk me home? I’ve a glass of whiskey with my name on it, and I think there’s one for you, too.”
He inclined his head and offered his arm. She thought about accepting it, she did, but the impossibility of all that was and was not between them kept her hand still at her side.
When the cool air finally chilled the last of her blush, she asked, “Is it enough? I... you know I can help more, if you need it. If they need it.”
“They always need it.”
The next time she divvied the shares, she decided, she’d hand him her part, too.
Scott started working on the Tempest as an engineer, and thepair of them hit it off right away. It was only a matter of time before theykissed. There was a secret bet going around the ship about how long it wouldtake them. The rest of the crew was taking a few hours of shore leave on the Nexus, leaving Gil and Scott alone on the ship. Scott thought he was completely alone, and Gil catches him singing a love song rather loudly to himself, that he embarrassinglyfesses up he was singing about Gil then quickly kisses him. 18. who uses all the hot water?
Scott, definitely. That boy loves long showers. They veryquickly end up showering together to preserve water. Not that either of them particularlymind.
36. typical date night? out or at home?
They try date nights at various outposts or the Nexus whenthey’re first dating; drinks, dinner, or just finding some nice place andadmiring the view. But they also enjoy the times when everyone else is on shoreleave and they can have the ship to themselves.
When they settle down on Meridian, there aren’t many placesto go on dates yet; there aren’t exactly an abundance of restaurants poppingup, so Sam babysits Dian and they have a romantic night in. Which starts withthem having a nice homecooked meal; candles, music. They watch a vid together, but before they can even think about fooling around or making it upstairs, theyboth fall asleep on the couch, too warm and comfortable to worry about it.
