FANGS OF FORTUNE 大梦归离 — 2024, dir. Edward Guo, Luo Luo, Wei Nan
I will worship at the feet of a character like Zhou Yichen forever. Hurt, angry, closed off, and full of righteous hatred. Yet at his core a soft, kind hearted boy full of love. He gives off an aura of arrogance yet subverts it with integrity, growth, and introspection at every turn. It takes almost no time at all for him to recognize in himself that maybe he was wrong about how he perceives the world and demons, and actively becomes an even better person than he was even the day before. He lost his entire family and the Bureau he grew up in to a demon that he then spends half his life hating and feeding off that hate, but the second he’s slapped in the face with reality maybe not being what he thought it to be, he starts to soften and grow. He doesn’t get angrier, he doesn’t grow more hateful, he doesn’t back down from his own lack of understanding and ability, he simply looks it in the face and decides he’s going to be better.
The gayest moments in Fangs of Fortune
In no particular order. There are so so many, but I cut myself off here, so this post didn't get crazy long.
The Sexual Vortex
The moment that had me truly shaking my head, astounded that it made it past the censors was this exchange in Zhao Yuanzhou's red whirlwind. Maybe someone out there didn't think that Zhao Yuanzhou was talking about sex, specifically getting down on his knees.
Look at how he glances down, a bit shy. This is a demon who has imagined all the ways he can show this stiff demon hunter how being a little evil is a lot of fun. Then his sad look of disappointment when he realizes that Zhou Yichen meant 'acting'.
Good Boys get Head Pats
The iconic head pat. Even in the throes of his murderous rampage, he takes a moment to put Zhou Yichen to 'SLEEP' and then gently pats him on the head. Good boy, I have deliciously evil things to do to you later. However much the malicious energy consumed him, it's so telling that he doesn't actually harm Zhou Yichen.
Bondage Part 1
Zhao Yuanzhou has found his happy place, tied to his two favorite people. Weirdly, not the only time this happens. Bless this team for their dedication to bondage and throuple energy.
Bondage Part 2. They're all tied together again with ZYZ very happily in the middle. Once is an accident, but twice is a threesome. That's the red string of fate holding you all together, so you best get comfortable with it.

Don't think it means anything that I'm standing by your side. Again.
I mean, Zhou Yichen was supposed to leave with Bai Jiu, but somehow he's here, ready to fight side by side. His 'hm' does earn him a very sharp '闭嘴' bizui aka shut up. He's standing by his man and he refuses to talk about it.
Wink Wink Nudge Nudge
Iconic moment. Winking at your boyfriend while in a life and death situation. I think ZYZ figured out frustration just make Zhou Yichen horny.
Whaaaat is even happening here? Poor guy was so out of his depth with ZYZ.
Trying to make up with my boyfie
When Zhou Yichen missed the group memo, he is extra grumpy. Zhao Yuanzhou confidently scrambles back to the rest of the group when his apology is rejected. The boyfriend is going to need breakfast in bed and maybe a few rounds of ZYZ on his knees doing what he does best.
I saved this for last only because it broke my heart.
Devastation thy name is Fangs of Fortune
This show never stopped pulling at my heartstrings. Look at the utter devastation on Zhao Yuanzhou's face that in order to kill the villain he's going to have to sacrifice Zhou Yichen, too. This was never part of the bargain.
