Back in time.

Το Δεκαπενταύγουστο του 1940, το ιστορικό καφέ – ζαχαροπλαστείο Ζώναρς, άνοιξε για πρώτη φορά τις πόρτες του για το κοινό της Αθήνας. Η μέρα εγκαινίων του κοσμικού μαγαζιού, συνέπεσε με τον τορπιλισμό του ελληνικού πολεμικού πλοίου «Έλλη» στο λιμάνι της Τήνου.

Το Ζώναρς «στόλιζε» τη γωνία Βουκουρεστίου και Πανεπιστημίου. Σύντομα, έγινε σημείο αναφοράς της πρωτεύουσας και στέκι της κοινωνικής και πολιτικής ελίτ.

Η πολυτέλεια του καταστήματος, αποτυπώθηκε και στο βιβλίο «Μαντάμ Σουσού» του Δημήτρη Ψαθά, ως εξής:

– Για πού, κυρία Σουσού;

– Στου Ζωνάρς.

– Τι είναι πάλι αυτό;

– Κέντρον, κυρα-Μαρίκα μου. Κέντρον του καλού κόσμου. Αλλά, φυσικά, παρντόν. Πού να ξέρετε εσείς εδώ κάτω, αστείο πράγμα! Είναι ένα πολυτελέστατον κέντρον, όπου πηγαίνει η αριστοκρατία και τρώγει την πάστα της λιγάκι ακριβούτσικα.Δίνεις όμως κάτι παραπάνω, κυρία Πανωραία μου, αλλά την ευχαριστιέσαι!
