A collaborative project by Leo Okagawa and Simon Whetham, 2019.
Leo Okagawa and Simon Whetham met in Tokyo in 2017 after sharing works with each other. They already began discussing some way of collaborating, not simply by sharing sound recordings but in a more conceptual way.
Leo suggested they compose a short piece each, with a concept in mind, and once complete would share the result with the other, but without explaining the concept behind the piece. Once this stage was complete, Simon had the idea to recompose the otherâs piece, with their own idea of what the concept was. They then shared the works, once again not explaining the concept behind the recomposition.
The works are almost complete, and itâs your turn now. As the next step, please try and guess what the concepts are behind the works. The artists are curious to know the listenersâ imaginations.

This edition documented a collaboration of three international composers working with found objects and mundane artifacts. The trio of Anne-F Jacques (CA), Ryoko Akama (JP/GB) and Takamitsu Ohta (JP) created slow intensifications using installations of modified devices and movements. An investigation of intermingling whirs and clangs, sometimes soft and tiny, raised from glass bottles, rocks, newspaper, pvc pipes, matches, electronics or dried leaves, begging the listeners to decipher and keep guessing what provoked every incidents. It is a showcase of motions, a narration on process, a phenomena through forces, an ode to Kosugi.
