I am back

Well, after a considerable break. I am back, I hope you will forgive the absence. I was busy with life. So what exactly was I busy with? Well I am glad you asked. I have been busy getting my company started. I am now the controlling member of Campbell Consulting Services L.L.C. which is an IT Strategy and Planning company. I have also been working with my daughter to get her moved down from her moms house to my house. That was an adventure let me tell you. She is an artist so you should check out her stuff over at Deviant Art. Other than that, FOOTBALL is BACK. FINALLY!! It has been a long off season but it looks like the Lions will actually have a run game and a secondary this year. Looking forward to shutting the mouths of all the haters out there. Man is it good to be back.

The ACA or "ObamaCare" really is working

Now many people don’t like the Affordable Care Act otherwise known as “ObamaCare”. There is good reason for that, many doctors didn’t participate for a wide variety of reasons and most could not find a way to keep seeing the same doctors. Then there is the costs associated with it, costs which have been rising very quickly and still costing the insurance industry a TON of money. Also, and this one really grinds my gears, there is the individual mandate for insurance. Really, the government is going to tell me how to spend MY money??!! I don’t think so. And so the endless battle to get rid of it began with conservatives calling it a failed law and progressives saying that it is working. Well, as much as some may not want to admit it, it is working exactly as planned. You see the people who crafted the majority of the law knew a couple of things, first that no-one would read the damn thing. And if they did, it was so couched in legal mumbo jumbo that they would overlook the real point of it. And second, that it was the only way to get what they truly wanted — a complete government takeover of an entire sector of the economy and our lives. To get a better picture of this one must think back to the state of the congress in 2008/9. It was controlled by a SUPER MAJORITY of Democrats. They also controlled the White house. This meant that they could literally pass any law that they wanted and could get through their own party. The more progressive portion of the party, including Hillary Clinton and Barrack Obama, wanted a true single payer system where the government would run all heath care. They would not just want to provide the insurance but eventually run the entire medical sector of the economy, making the big Pharma companies ass piles of money along the way. What wound up happening is that some of the democrats, wound up being just liberal and not progressive and the progressive republicans were too afraid for their positions of power that they would not support such a move. So the brain trust of the single payer system which could not come to be came up with a new idea. That was to make something that would fail so miserably that they could justify the government coming in and taking over. The TARP had just happened and “to big to fail” was now a thing and they intended to exploit it. They also considered any attempt by conservatives to counter such a move. It would appear constitutional under the protection of the people clause. I mean they could always pull that out against any challenge because of course ensuring people were healthy was protecting them wasn’t it? And now as the Health Insurance titans pull out of the marketplace, in the face of staggering losses, it appears that we are moving down the road of the progressive framers of this law faster than ever. The mandate is still with us and while a “poison pill” was inserted in the law to cut off unlimited funds from the program, it will only push us faster until the next POTUS must either dissolve the thing and finally sign a full repeal or make the move to “rescue the marketplace” with a government backed / government ran option. That is going to work out real well if they go that route too. Just look at the VA. Just something to think about Dan

Failure to Warn . . . . the end of Social Media and the Sharing Economy?

So I came across an article this afternoon in which a Lady was appearently allowed by judges in California to sue a web site. Now this is important because the website was a third party to a deal she made that went horribly bad. So she is an aspiring model and through this site she agreed to meet with a photographer for a shoot. Unfortunately, the photographer was not one and he with his partner were using this site to lure women to them, then drugging, raping and filming the act for a porn site. Now, I want to ABSOLUTELY clear, this is not behaviour that in any way has a place in our society. Now that being said, the men who purported these reprehensible acts were caught and sentenced to 12 consecutive life terms without the possibility of parole. It seems however that this is not good enough for the woman. Now she is suing the website which she used to pursue a career as a model because they did not warn her about the possibility that these men were out there and this could happen. This could be a very bad thing for all Social Media and the sharing economy in general as it sets a precedent that when a deal goes bad, and this particular deal went as bad as it possibly could, the site that made it possible to set up is responsible for results. Does this also mean that the site gets at least a portion of any money which is made from the deal over and above any membership fees? It is a can of worms which could result in some very serious results which could end Social Media and the Sharing Economy completely. Take a look and let me know what you think. Dan

Here is an interesting summation of the Apple vs. FBI case. To put a bit of perspective on it, what the FBI is asking for is what has been asked of citizens for centuries and what Apple says is that they are trying to compel them to create something new and easy to be abuse. Ultimately it would violate our 4th and 5th amendment rights to give the feds what they want and there is no known way to ensure that it is a one time use or individualized method of intrusion. Basically there is no way to protect ourselves from it once it is done, but that is my opinion. I must applaud Rep. Sander Levin for being comfortable enough in himself and his knowledge that he could and would put a hard line between Democrat and Socialist. Although, he may be out of touch with his own party after 17 terms in congress and being 84 years old (around 10 years older than either of the current Dem Presidential candidates) cause he is a “liberal” democrat and not a “progressive”.
