We are officially done with this semester’s studio.

I included some graphics and pictures that were not used in my presentation. All in all, this was an exciting studio. The way we designed was different compared to other semester, and honestly, I enjoyed and learn more with Hazal and Collin’s method of teaching.

First project was working with a real client. Creating specific constraints we had to adhere to

Second project was based on designing a product with a specific companies form language and through the scope of extending their brand, for future possibilities.

Today was our final presentations - and I got it done.

Feedback wasn’t exactly what I was expecting. I was l more concerned with my application of the renders to real life photos.

The feedback I got was related to the brand extension and how Dyson would not concentrate on dogs that are already trained. I was advised to restructure the pitch and use ‘training animals’ as the reason Dyson would create a product for pets and their owners.

The last couple days were rough, but we got the models and renders to look applicable. And that is a win.

Concentrate on why Dyson would do that? Why would they create that? Ask larger dog owners what they would use?

I wasn’t feeling too well the last 2-3 weeks. I was going through it.

But we made it back and I just realized I have two days to complete the presentation for studio. I have my plan set up - presentation set up.

I have the ‘research and design’ done. I just have to get a physical model and/or cad model done before friday. Oof.

Next time I post I should be done with the presentation and models. :0

Today we discussed our concepts between our groups - we got positive and negative feedback and were tasked with picking a direction.

Our group discussion was definitely fruitful, and helped zone in on a direction.

Hazal’s input always helps - I just think I have to better define certain how might we’s…

I thought it was pretty interesting reading the scope and perspective of a designer on the ever changing game.

My roommate and I were just talking about the AI service last night. What I didn’t realize is how applicable the service would be to a designers space.

This new AI is scary. Although designers have always faced the struggle of keeping up with the ever-emerging tools. This AI may cause to create commotion in the design space. The first few paragraphs introduce the topic as a piece the AI made that received the award. Recognizing that it wasn’t made by a human- stressed the other artists.

The 4.0 industry really helps better understand the market movement. Planning ahead, estimating ahead is a trait designers have always been good at.

Today was our first sketch day.

I recently switched industries and jobs, working in the sales force has been some of the most enlightening gigs I’ve ever experienced.

Recently, I was manager at a solar company. Leading teams across neighborhoods in order to sale door to door. Inquiring about solar options that were made available in recent months.

Visiting 90+ houses a day, with the same script was the most tedious job I have ever had.

Unfortunately the labor demand caused me to miss a few classes, mainly due to health and exhaustion. So I have been behind a little.

I missed class on Wednesday, and I have to catch up on the journey map and scenarios - however, I do have both my personas created and conceptualized products that could be potential problem solvers.

I do enjoy the pace and course, the way we are given plenty individuality.

I just have to get back on track

October 21st

We used the CK diagram to better design our personas. What really helped today was Collin & Hazal’s input.

Collin’s help better understanding the purpose of the ‘How might We’ really simplified the way to create our personas. Figuring out recent and available technology, while recognizing we are concerned with designing for the future - “think 2050”

Hazal really helped better understand the purpose of the CK diagram and how we relate that to our design, and better our specific personas.

The idea I had was very detailed, and I think I have to take a step back and figure out broader solutions right now. Come to a final solution later in the process…

October 19th

After presenting our findings on the chosen group brand - Dyson - we were tasked with creating personas that would fit our individual story lines.

Creating personas will definitely create a structure for what kind of product we could target, especially concerning expansion of the Dyson brand.

What really stood out from the presentation was recognizing we were missing form identification from Dyson’s brand language.

Oct 12th

First day of the new project brief. We were tasked with picking a company that provides for an identifiable body of form language. We would then branch out creating wearable technology that relates to the brand chosen.

We worked in groups and came out with Dyson as the comparable brand. Researching well-being trends will better narrow down our products area to be relatable to Dyson’s available products.

Project Reflection

Real life client work is always the most interesting, providing us with the ability to actually see the fruits of our labor come to fruition. Seeing ideas we put out, with little to no financial help, our ideas our brought to life through clients. I thought the first half of the semester's project went pretty well and taught us a lot about working in the field.

The project partners were very interesting, because I have always enjoyed working in groups and merging ideas, learning from other students, it always helped me see things from a different perspective. But group work requires team work and cooperation, this semester was a little rough, but we got the job done.

Presentation Day

After plenty of meetings with Collin and Hazal, we managed to come to an understanding about what the project really required. The was always constant conflict between what we needed to do and what we wanted to do. But! We got it done. Took longer than needed and it came down to the last minute. All in all, it was a presentable project.

If I were to include it in my portfolio, really think I would need to work on some renders. I do like the idea of working with an escape room and even more, a real client.

Sept 30th

Dry Runs

After presenting what little we had, it was pretty clear we had a lot of work to get done before the final deliverable.

We did, however, have a plan and it will take work to keep the whole team on track.

The dry runs were probably the most effective method in getting us ready for the presentation. The feedback received from both teachers and students really enhanced our vision and structure.

Sept 28th

After discussing several possible wrist wear functionalities, we realized we were getting ahead of ourselves and had too much to put on one wrist . We narrowed it down to four key functions based on what functionalities we thought, best, fit the needs of a game room.

I think there were points where we strayed off and maybe got ahead of ourselves, regarding cost and function. But the wrist wear idea is pretty cool.

Sept 23rd

Today was a discussion based class, we met up with Collin and Hazal, summarizing our plan and getting approval. These were the notes I took talking to Collin, Collin’s perspective was very insightful.

It is definitely helpful with instructors that understand what's going on without complaining. Their insight and experience definitely develops our thinking.

P’s and Q’s from the other E’s

We were tasked with presenting our concept framework in order  to receive feedback. We presented the solution we devised and were asked to note down positives and questions/negatives in order to help the groups presenting.

It was pretty interesting, noticing one of the students comment on our concepts the same way the client had. The mention of experimenting with analogue options rather than heavy technical portals.

It was pretty cool getting a students perspective on the comment, rather than just the client. AND we did not imply anything.

Today we were tasked with creating a fictional character or living being, using an inanimate object we use every day.

I picked my phone, trying to conceptualize the idea of our phones getting up and leaving us with all our data it has stored.
