OjiKure Wax Play - October 1st
Ojiro looked down, breath shaky. He had a special lit red candle in one hand as he gazed at the low table before him; the only visual indication of his lover was a hair bow and handcuffs contorted unnaturally in the dim moodlighting. “You remember what to say if it gets to be too much?”
She huffed at the question, but answered diligently. “Of course, safeword is ‘Grenade.’ Now are you going to just keep me here waiting, or are you going to do something with that?” Hagakure tapped her leg against his in a gesture of impatience. “I’m getting cold here, please warm me up~”

BKDK Positivity Week: Part 4
Day 4 (9/19) - Rise ★ Havoc ★ Amusement Park
Bakugou shakes out his fingers as he waits for Midoriya to get set up at the piano. Just thirty minutes of this, so Dr. Lisk thinks I’m trying. He flips back to the first page of the sheet music. “Hurry it up, you’ve already wasted 5 minutes of my time,” he grumbles out.
Midoriya jumps, and hurriedly gets his music in order. “R-right!” he squeaks out. “Uh-um… “
“What is it?” Bakugou bites out.
Midoriya scratches the back of his neck. “What tuning notes do you prefer to use? So, so I can write it down for the make-up exam!”
“Tch, is that all? Give me an F, low Bb, high Bb.” Midoriya plays the notes one at a time as Bakugou tunes, and makes some minor adjustments. “Alright, let’s take it from the top and see how it goes.” He steadies himself, pointed completely away from the piano.
Midoriya gives him a puzzled look, but is still too nervous around the other man to suggest anything. Instead, he turns to the keyboard and starts playing the introductory measures.
Taking a deep breath, Bakugou gets ready to play, but something about the piano has him on edge. It irks him at the back of his mind, but he works through it for the most part, because he is a professional goddammit. They continue playing through the first movement, Bakugou gradually tensing up throughout, until at last he cut off mid-phrase. “What the fuck are you doing? Don’t you see I have a cadenza right there? Ca-den-za. You know, the solo showy-offy bit? I’ll cue you when to come in again.” Bakugou shakes his head and mutters, “frickin’ lifeless classical player.”
Midoriya stares at him in shock through his little rant, shirking into the piano bench, but at the last remark his anger suddenly flares. “Hang on a minute. First of all, you’re the one facing away from me, how am I supposed to see any cues from you? If we can’t even see each other, how do you expect us to communicate while playing?! And sure, you play - really actually amazingly, actually - but in any piece of music your part isn’t always going to be the most important line, so you need to learn to back off!”
The two stare at each other for a good minute, neither wanting to back down. Suddenly a phone chime goes off and breaks the tension. “...That’s mine,” Bakugou says, and checks his phone. It’s a message from Dr. Lisk, reminding him to play nicely with the accompanist-or-else. He sighs exasperatedly, and composes himself. “Whatever. Let’s try it again. Get through it once, then we can get out of here.” He sets his phone in his bag, and after a second glance, moves his stand back a bit to have line-of-sight with the pianist. “Better?”
Midoriya blinks, then his mouth spreads into a big smile. “Much!”
Bakugou has to look away, mildly dazzled. “Y’know, in lab band you played way more lively. Just- play more like you did then, will you? And let’s take it a bit faster.” He snaps his preferred tempo for a few beats. “Got it? Let’s do this.”
The first movement goes much better this time, and the pair even start to enjoy the performance, getting caught up by the jovial tune. Midoriya pauses appropriately this time for the cadenza, and is momentarily dazzled by Bakugou’s technical proficiency.
The second movement is much slower, with a somber, introspective tone. Bakugou starts off softly, moving into a lovely haunting theme with so much emotion it gives Midoriya goosebumps. Bakugou makes a point to make eye contact with him, as there a several moments where he plays with the tempo to up the ante. He thinks he sees tears in the pianist’s eyes at one point, and moves his horn as if to motion for a slowing of tempo to get his attention, before winking cockily and crooning out a delicate, lovely high note. Midoriya quickly shifts his gaze back to the music in front of him, only daring to look at Bakugou from the side, ears turning red.
The final movement begins, Bakugou setting a quick tempo. It starts off alright, and Bakugou whips out his flashiest runs. Gradually, without either of the two realizing it, the tempo starts to rise, and rise, and rise, until they’re speeding out of control. Midoriya tries to reign them in, but Bakugou lived in that moment, on the brink of collapse, and keeps powering through on pure muscle memory. They make it to the end, just barely, and Bakugou is gasping for air.
Midoriya lays his arms down, starting to feel a strain, and jumps when he hears the unfamiliar sound of Bakugou laughing. He turns to face him in a strange sense of wonder, but the laughter just continues, until Midoriya gets caught up in the infectiousness and breathlessness and awe.
Bakugou takes a seat next to him on the bench, laughter winding down. “Well that was a mess. Fun as hell, but such a mess.” He gives one last chuckle, then leans down, elbows on his knees. He turns to the green-haired man, and smiles genuinely. “You kept up. Guess I’m stuck with you now.” He offers his hand.
Midoriya glances between the grin and the hand, before taking the latter and shaking it firmly. A similar smile graces his own mouth, and a fire is lit behind his eyes. “You sure are!”

BKDK Positivity Week
Worth ★ Winter Hero Costume ★ Vigilante
Midoriya steps out of his apartment into the brisk late-winter air, and stretches. Finally Friday night! he thinks to himself, tension from the week ebbing away at the idea of getting to spend the evening with friends. Ever since the previous semester, Friday nights were his scheduled social time with Uraraka Ochako and Iida Tenya. Tonight, the bar they were meeting up at was within walking distance, so despite the cold Midoriya decided against hitching a ride. Instead, he snuggles into his puffy emerald coat and starts his trek.
When he gets to the bar, a place called “Lucky’s,” he smiles at the doorman and heads on in, glancing around. He sees his friends are already sitting at their preferred booth, and waves to them as he approaches. “Hi guys, hope you weren’t waiting long on little old me!”
BKDK Positivity Week: Day 2 - Power
Bakugou strolls into the first Jazz Band rehearsal of the semester, fuming over the message he just received.
Bakugou, I’ve found you a new accompanist and you WILL complete the makeup barrier. His name is Midoriya Izuku, a doctoral student in piano, and he will be informing me if you refuse to cooperate. Please schedule a rehearsal with him within the next week, or I will not continue to teach you. ~ Dr. Lisk
Damn hag, always butting in on my business… he thinks. Bakugou had been working with Dr. Lisk ever since his undergrad days, and despite their frequent feuding he had loads of respect for the woman for putting up with him and teaching him how to be the best trumpeter around. She’d seriously blackmail me like that? Yes, yes she would. He drags his free hand over his face, and starts working through some breathing exercises before he really loses his cool. Forget that, let’s just make some god-damn music.
Bakugou takes his seat in the lead trumpet spot and starts warming up as the rest of the group trickles in. He’s in the middle of working through his jazz scales when the director walks in, and calls for attention.
“Yo yo yo, everybody! I hope you all had a nice winter break!!” Yamada Hizashi exclaims. He nods to the saxes. “Hanta, Tohru, looking sharp!” Over to the trombones, “Mina! Is that a new instrument I see, or did you finally polish that ol’ girl? Good to see ya!” And to the trumpets, “Katsuki, you remember the policy, drop your attitude at the door when you come to play. Eijirou, don’t forget to pull in that tuning slide on those high E’s, we don’t want a repeat of last November.” Yamada shakes his head. “Anyway, anyway! Let’s get rockin! Your new music is already on your stands. We have a concert in 6 weeks, so no slouching!”
The door suddenly creaked open, revealing a nervous green-haired man. “Um, hi, sorry I’m late Mr. Yamada! They just told me I was being moved - “ he walks shakily into the room, staring at the floor.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah!!! That’s right! Come over here, Izuku. Band, one last housekeeping note before we begin - as you may know, our former pianist Mirio recently graduated last semester, and is touring with his own new band." He wipes away an invisible tear. "In his stead, god bless that angel, Midoriya Izuku will be joining us for the remainder of the semester! Go on, take your seat over there.”
Bakugou watches Midoriya set up, slack-jawed. That’s the guy I bumped into this morning-! Did Lisk seriously just pair me up with the first accompanist that walked along?! He shakes his head. Well, he’d better be good, or I’m having a serious conversation with her later today.
Bakugou looks up just in time to see Mr. Yamada counting the band in, and they start sight-reading the new rag. The piece starts off big and brassy, then smoothes out into a woodwind soli, to a tenor sax solo, which wanders over to a piano solo before returning to full band. Sero takes the tenor solo, which for a first go isn’t bad. He jams for several bars before Midoriya takes over the jam.
When Bakugou dares to glance back over toward the rhythm section, the meek nervous person who had first walked in had transformed into a nearly unrecognizable figure. The green-haired man’s eyes glinted with excitement at the challenge of sight-reading the difficult passage, and hands danced over the keyboard playfully, enrapturing and bewitching to behold. He laid down the most incredible licks with tempered ease, or so it seemed. An open-mouthed smile graced Midoriya’s face the entire time, growing wider the more complicated the music got.
Bakugou doesn’t even realize he is staring until the rest of the trumpet section starts playing the stinger. He flushes, and scrambles to pick up with the group, entering in the next measure just in time for the lead part to split up into a glorious high F, which comes out loud and solid, perfectly centered in the pitch. Infuriated that he had lost focus watching the new pianist, he decides to show off the power with which he can play with, jumping up a third higher to an A at the end, staring straight at Midoriya as he does so.
Mr. Yamada cuts off the band, though Bakugou holds over half a count to make sure he’s heard. As soon as he does this, Midoriya finally looks up and locks eyes with Bakugou, before quietly squeaking and looking back down, ears turning red. Curious reaction, Bakugou thinks, but his train of thought is cut off by Mr. Yamada’s critique.
“Alright, nice sightread! But next time, let’s remember to count~” he says, giving Bakugou a knowing look. Bakugou boldly stares back at him, frown deepening. “-Ahem. Anyway! Moving along …. “
The rest of the rehearsal proceeds similarly, Midoriya and Bakugou trading off strutting their best techniques in an unspoken competition. By the end of the two hour practice, they are both lightly sweating and Bakugou’s chops are nearly shot. Mr. Yamada dismisses them, and though Bakugou only has 10 minutes to get to his next class, he decides to confront the green-haired man.
“Hey nerd! We need to talk.”
Midoriya glances around, uncertain, then points to himself. “Do you mean me?”
Bakugou groans exaggeratedly, dragging a hand down his face in exasperation. “Do you mean me- YES I mean you, you fucking nerd!” Suddenly, he realizes he’s starting to attract attention from the other stragglers. “Just- come on, let’s walk and talk.” He storms out of the room, giving Midoriya a glance to say, “you coming?”
Midoriya jumps at his tone, but thinks, might as well get this conversation over with… and follows Bakugou into the hallway. Fortunately, it looks like his next class is in the same direction.
Fidgeting his thumbs along his music bag’s zipper, Midoriya is the first to break the silence. “So um, I guess you saw the text from Dr. Lisk?” he asks, and gets nothing but a cold shoulder for a minute. Starting to panic, he starts again. “So, the Haydn - “
Bakugou whirls around at him, eyes ablaze. “Look, I’m only doing this to get my damn degree and move on from here. Sure, you can play, and I’ll agree to work with you this once, but we’re not going to be friends, and you still better not tell anyone about this!” He hisses out the last bit. Midoriya freezes, caught between Bakugou and the wall, green eyes wide and distracting. Bakugou quickly looks away before those eyes can derail his train of thoughts too much. He sighs and backs off, continuing on. “We need to schedule a damn rehearsal so Dr. Lisk will get off my back. What are your Wednesday evenings like?”
Midoriya blinks, then stutters out “I don’t- I don’t really have any time during the week, my schedule is pretty- pretty busy ahaha…” Midoriya starts mumbling out his entire week’s schedule before Bakugou stops him.
“Stop blabbering you damn nerd, I get it, weekdays aren’t good,” he huffs. ‘What about Saturdays?”
Midoriya snaps out of it, then thinks about his weekends. He generally spent his weekends doing chores and getting in some friend time with Uraraka and Iida. “I suppose Saturday mornings could work. Maybe 10am?”
Bakugou groans. Fucking early… no, I need to do this. “Alright. 10. Meet me in the practice building. You’d better not be late.” With that, he risks a glance back at the pianist, and sees the man covering his mouth with those lovely hands- he suddenly does an about-face, and walks adamantly away, not dropping his pace and refusing to think about what just happened until he’s safely in the classroom.
What the fuck was that?!

Day 1: Genesis
Midoriya walked out of his practice room, sighing about how busy his schedule was about to be.** **
Lab band, lessons, teaching undergrads, all on top of a composition class, advanced theory class, and trying to figure out what to do for dissertation? Will I even have time to eat this semester?
Midoriya continues to mentally berate himself for taking on the extra classical piano lessons, as he walks through the music building to get to his next class. He’s about to turn down a hallway when suddenly, an office door slams open and he hears yelling.
“-AT DO YOU MEAN I HAVE TO RE-TAKE MY BARRIER EXAM, YOU OLD HAG??”
“WHO ARE YOU CALLING AN OLD HAG, YOU BRAT? MAYBE IF YOU ACTUALLY PRACTICED WITH YOUR ACCOMPANIST BEFOREHAND YOU WOULDN’T BE IN THIS POSITION!”
“SCREW THIS! WHEN AM I EVER GOING TO NEED HAYDN IN MY CAREER?!” A familiar-looking blond man storms out of the head trumpet professor’s office. Upon seeing Midoriya, his blood-red eyes widened with rage, and he stomped over to where the pianist was standing frozen. “You. You heard nothing of this. Got that?”
Midoriya nodded shakily, suddenly recognizing the man from his vivid eyes as the lead trumpet in the top jazz band at the University, Bakugou Katsuki. He was a legend, well known throughout the music department for his passionate style of playing and crazy talent, as well as his temper. And, well, his model-level looks had also attracted quite a bit of attention, as well as several jealous enemies.
After a moment, Bakugou seems to accept the nod as a yes, and shoves past him, trumpet case on his back and hands in his pockets.
Midoriya stares after him, the words he overheard finally sinking in. Wait, Bakugou failed his barrier test?! How?? He’s the most talented trumpet player I’ve ever heard!
Dr. Lisk, the trumpet professor, has stepped out of their office, shaking her head after her student. She notices Midoriya down the hallway and beckons him over. “You’re Dr. Ramos’s student aren’t you? His teaching assistant?”
Midoriya, caught into a conversation now, walks toward her. “Yes, that’s right! I’m Midoriya Izuku, nice to formally meet you.”
She gives him a once-over, and “hm”s to herself. “Perhaps you can help me with my troublesome student. You play both classical and jazz piano, right? Would you be interested in accompanying Bakugou during his make-up barrier exam?”
Midoriya is stunned silent, which she takes for reticence. “Oh, and I’ll make sure he pays double your accompaniment fee for the inconvenience this early in the semester. He’s got that temper, sure, but he’ll listen to anything I say.” She gives him a wink, and Midoriya flushes and looks away awkwardly. “Anyway,” she continues, “his make-up is set for one month from today, and I need him to actually practice once or twice with the piano beforehand. Please, you’ll be doing us a giant favor if you can get him into a practice room even once.” She sighs, wishing to herself that she had scheduled Bakugou’s lessons for later in the day, as it was way too early for this. “Well, can I count on you?”
Midoriya thinks it over for a minute. On one hand, he was extremely busy, and really didn’t have time for this. On the other hand…. This was an incredible opportunity, to work one-on-one with a talent of that calibre, and if he was being honest with himself, this sounded like just the challenge that might help him figure out that dissertation.
“Alright, I’m in. What is he playing, anyway?”
Dr. Lisk claps delightedly. “Right, of course, this way. Come on in, come on in, I’ll get you the sheet music.” She rummages around some file cabinets as Midoriya walks into the small room - the trumpet professor’s studio is covered floor to ceiling in bright tapestries, and posters with explosive bold text advertising concerts from years past.
“Here it is!” she declares, waving the booklet in the air. “It’s the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. Mark my words, he’s got the chops to play this beautifully, but it all goes to waste if he refuses to listen to piano occasionally.”
Midoriya accepts the sheet music and bows politely. “I’ll do my best with him. But um, I don’t really have a way to contact him …”
Dr. Lisk smacks her head lightly with her palm. “Of course! Here dear, let me get your phone number. I’ll send him a message later introducing you, not to worry!” she begins to shoo him out of the office. “Now I fear I’m making you late for something, off you go! I’ll see you later on dear!”
Suddenly, Midoriya is in the hallway staring at a closed door. He blinks bewilderedly, and slips the music into his bag before remembering that he was, in fact, starting to run late for his composition class.
As he dashes through the maze-like music building, he finds himself grinning, having formed an idea for his next composition project - a new beginning. “Genesis.”
