@absentminded-geek
i am being seduced
So someone pointed out to me recently that in a few years, maybe a few decades, the history of the us during covid is probably going to get twisted. The fact that we all had to make and wear cloth masks is going to be hailed as a symbol of how we “"came together as a nation”“” or whatever the fuck propaganda spin they try to put on it.
So I just want to say, for the record, the time of the corona virus pandemic was not a time when america came together.
This was a time when people hoarded toilet paper and sanitizing supplies either for themselves or to sell at absurd prices to the desperate people who didn’t get to the store soon enough during the shortages
This was a time when scared parents were sending their kids to finish school in the spring in plastic trash bags because they couldn’t think of any other way to possibly keep their families safe
This was a time when grocery store and retail and service workers were forced to keep working whether they wanted to risk their health or not because they couldn’t make rent otherwise and the people with enough privilege to have remote jobs tried to repay them with applause instead of fair wages
This was a time when nurses had the hold the hands of multiple dying people every day as their families watched their loved ones die over a video call because the hospital couldn’t risk having visitors
This was a time when city governments had to handle so many eviction hearings that they rented out convention centers and called in the national guard instead of doing a rent freeze to stop predatory landlords
This was a time when racism and police brutality were so unbearably horrible that people protested in the streets for months even though there was a god damn pandemic that our federal government wasn’t doing shit to stop and the cops were so mad that they were being asked to stop beating up black people that they were beating up everyone
This was a time when schools being forced to reopen in the fall or lose their federal funding had to draft templates for letters if a teacher or a staff person or a fucking child died from exposure to corona at school
This was a time when the president of the United states demanded that the cdc stop releasing data about all the people who were dying because of the warnings he ignored for months were making him look bad
This was a time when some state governments didn’t mandate masks and forced businesses to reopen because they didn’t want to pay unemployment to people trying to stay safe at home anymore
This was a time when Jeff Bezos was on track to be a fucking trillionare because everyone was ordering things on amazon instead of going to the store and the people he worked to death to get it didn’t see a single cent of it
This was a time when instead of providing homeless people with housing, we painted boxes on the ground to show homeless people how far away the had to be on the street to maintain social distancing
We did not come together to make cloth masks. Cloth masks represent nothing less than the absolute and utter failure of a nation’s government to inform and protect its citizens
This was not a time when we came together. This was a time when we survived, and not all of us made it.
This was a time when people casually talked about how many human lives the economy was worth without considering the evil that had just come out of their mouths.
This was a time when thousands of us died for profit and the ego of a cheating narcissists con man who scammed his way into the white house
This was a time that we survived. Most of us tried to do the right thing, stay home, limit trips to the store and socializing, wear a mask. And still, so many of us were lost. Thousands every day.
But that wasn’t a good enough reason for some people, for those among us who were too selfish to recognize the responsibilities we have toward one another as human beings.
This was not a time that we came together
This was a time that we survived
Not all of us made it
And those of us who did survive will never forget the evil we saw daily in our politicians and those around us

So now that my whole family is vaccinated using the Pfizer vaccine, I thought it might be nice to report on our side effects! Can you find the common denominator?
Me, 30
vaccinated 22 Dec
22 Dec- minor flashes of pain at injection site
23 Dec- injection site pain when punched lightly in the arm by Dad who forgot which arm I got the shot in, some joint stiffness that’s proooobably more likely related to falling asleep in a stupid position and honestly it’s so minor that it barely counts
24 Dec- redness at injection site, no swelling, no longer tender to touch- redness possibly from ripping off band-aid.
Lauren, 27
vaccinated 20 Dec
21 Dec- reported swelling and soreness in left arm around injection site
22 Dec- reported headache in the morning and a low-grade fever that broke by 1 PM
24 Dec- reported significant pain at injection site when slapped on the arm by our dad as he was telling a joke and laughing too hard at his own joke
Nick, 24
Vaccinated 23 Dec
24 Dec- reported pain at injection site when gently shaken awake by our dad, who managed to put his hand exactly on the injection site
Sarah, 20
Vaccinated 23 Dec
23 Dec- reported pain and swelling at injection site
24 Dec- reported pain at injection site when picked up by our dad in an attempt to crack her back
Mom, 58
vaccinated 23 Dec
23 Dec- reported severe headaches in evening and redness/swelling around injection site
24 Dec- headache gone, injection site red and a little itchy, pain at injection site when hugged too tightly by my dad
Dad, 57
vaccinated 19 Dec
19 Dec- reported soreness around injection site
24 Dec- reported severe pain in entire body when entire family decided to beat him with pillows to see how he liked it
hey all

Also I am going to be real if you get the flu this year you probably should be doing something very different because you’re definitely not protecting yourself properly from COVID
I just got the seasonal cold and nearly had a heart attack.
Never before have I been grateful for a runny nose.

it’s officially the world premiere of “do i have a cold because it’s that time of year? or do i have coronavirus?” season

How To Get A Job Fast As Hell
@owenabbott
Apply to a job, wait (1) day, then call. Give them your first and last name. Tell them you submitted an application and that you’re very motivated to find [Enter field name] work. Let the conversation lead you wherever it takes. Be very polite. Say” thank you for your time, I’ll be looking forward to hearing back from you.” Rinse, repeat. This is to force them to be looking out for your application.
When you get to the interview, shake their hand firmly, tell them your first and last name.
Describe your experiences as “ two years transcription and data entry” if you have a desk job interview and “ [however many years] costumer service, retail and stock” for your retail jobs.
Don’t use job “ buzz words” I stg they hear them all day. Say things like, “ I’m detail oriented and am very good at taking instruction.” “ I would like to work for a company with integrity and I feel that [ company name] would be a good fit”
When they ask you if you have “reliable transportation” say YES. don’t tell them what kind of transportation, just say yes. (if you don’t do this, you wont get the job , I’m telling you right now).
Research the company. Know what they do, why they do it, how OLD the company is. WHERE it was founded, and what kind of position you’re intending to apply for.
When they ask you “ give us a situation where you had to blah blah blah” Make one the fuck up. Make yourself sound good as hell, and like you put your company’s needs slightly above the customer’s needs, but make the customer happy.
If they ask you about being outgoing, Say you “like to focus on your work so you can concentrate on doing things right” (which buys you out of having to act friendly all the time)
Questions for after the interview:
1. Does this position offer upward mobility?
2. Do you enjoy working for the company? (if you’re not interviewing for a temp agency who will send you anywhere)
Then, shake their hand, Ask them to repeat their name (REMEMBER THIS) say thank you for your time, wish them a nice day and leave. write their name down outside if you have to, just remember the fuck out of it.
AFTER your interview, send a card directed to the name of the person who interviewed you (I’ll give you them) that says “Thank you for the interview, I appreciate the opportunity. have a great day” This shows that you have an understanding of professionalism, and will have them thinking of you kindly (or at least remembering you) when they’re shuffling through the choices.
DO NOT tell them you just moved to the city over the phone. In person, tell them you just moved to the city. Make it sound like the only reason you need a job is because you moved. Not because you’re desperate.

I knew this but I’m reblogging cause someone might not know
I’m saving this.
I need this, I’ve done some of these before but there’s some things I haven’t thought of before. Thank you!
Always say you have reliable transportation, when i applied at UPS as a seasonal/holiday employee, they asked this, and i said no, since i walk everywhere. I. Never. Ever. EVER. Got called in. I called every morning to see if i could come work, and got nothing. Even during the busiest time of the year. When i asked a driver why i didn’t get call ins, he told me it was most likely because i told them i didn’t have a car. I worked about 7 days within 3 months, and on the 7th day i didn’t rest, (God joke right there lol) i cleaned the garage, before the trucks came back, and never got another call to work again. My friend had continued working there, and bragged to me this summer about him making a little over $1000 a week as a driver, idk if it’s true, but it feels like a lost opportunity. So just, say you have reliable transportation, it’ll keep the depression away, and you won’t lose 40 pounds from not being able to afford food. Seriously.
You were someone I trusted.
& now the thought of you makes me wish I sucker punched you in the face.
I hate you.
I could never forgive someone so manipulative.
You made yourself seem like the victim.
Your (former) partner doesn't look at you in the same light. I'm more than happy to leave you behind.
Forgiveness is earned, not handed through pity.
All this time, you could have tried to mend your relationship with her. ALL THIS TIME, you could have confessed.
There was none of that.
You harmed her by offering the love and attention she deserved to people that have not seen your face, or knew your real name. She only longed for your company but you shoved her to the side.
The expression of regret you sent me was counterfeit. It only came up because you were caught— because I remembered.
You hoped that I never did,
but I did.
That knit-sweater was my favorite.
It kept me warm and I felt so pretty in it. But because of you, I can't wear it without the thought of what happened.
There was not an invitation.
I did not call for you.
I did not consent.
i listen because i know exactly how it feels to be unheard.
Remember this scene:
Thats how I've been feeling.
