Absent Minds The Misery Of Correcting Past Mistakes (Self -Released) Speedy punk that brings us back to the early days of Fat Wreck Chords or Lookout Records; these Portlandians raise some eyebrows by plugging in a cello – and it’s much more than an occasional cameo. The cello here is focused on as much as guitars, and not in an aching, classical sense like Oregon is known for. Instead, it keeps pace with the quick melodies, memorable hooks and anthemic choruses just fine. An unconventional addition to punk rock, while the first couple tracks take some adjusting, it won’t take long until you’ll view this as a welcomed twist on a tried-and-true sound, as Absent Minds are carving a path of their own that is infectious and fun.
