House JRv2, Poznan, Poland by Studio De Materia
Nara House Fuji Architects
Galley House Williamson Chong Architects
From the architect:
Situated on a long, narrow ‘leftover’ lot, the Galley House occupies a once-neglected site – its basic lot configuration having not matched a desirable parcel in the mind of the market. The aim was to consider the project for the Galley House prototypically: how a new, slender detached housing type in Toronto can be viable in terms of square footage while not shortchanging itself on natural light. The attempt to re-use leftover lots by re-forming typologies is hoped to be a sound, healthy approach to building in the North American city – especially within a city that may already appear dense enough and where buildable lots are seemingly unavailable.

Dark Horse Extension in Melbourne
In a row of workers’ cottages, there is one Dark Horse – a handsome creature designed by Architecture Architecture. The stepped parapet, centred window, side-lined door and entrance awning are carried with the familiar, unassuming composure of the others. Yet here the materials, stark in their composition, have a distinctly 21st century character, hinting at the contemporary home within.
Indeed, the palette of black, white and grey is carried throughout the house, lending tonal variation and spatial depth to an otherwise diminutive site. The play of tones establishes a subtle field of spaces that expand and contract, creating moments of generosity and intimacy.

Estudi Lacy
New studio! SAUQUET ARQUITECTES I ASSOCIATS, SLP has rented the ground floor of a typical house in Sabadell. It is 4 metres wide and very long. From the street, there is a unique inner space, a porch and a toilet facing a south oriented garden. They have turned the porch into a veranda-meeting room with a large glass facing the garden and which will be protected with sunshades. They have planned all the closings with recycled woodwork. The interior will be diaphanous.

Eaves House
Eaves House by mA-style architects is characterized by the positioning of the eaves and the style of roofing. The space beneath the eaves is the point where the indoor space meets the outdoor space. It is a space that defines where the inside ends and outside begins.
The framework creates a sense of a large, extended vertical space which ensures privacy of the area. The horizontal line extends to the adjoining land, creating a 3D sense of space. The coexistence of open and closed spaces is suitable for both daily living and various activities. The house connects the inhabitants with the environment.
