I'm not one for the reblogs on here, but.....if you're into this kind of thing, come get this highly curated experience. I usually don't like ASMRs that I find on YouTube, but I was a big fan of the @tomhiddlestonsoundalike page back in the day. So if you liked that sort of thing...these are very similar. I've never heard of soundgasm, but I'm ready to devote large, large chunks of hard drive space to some of these voices.
Things I'm reading
Magic is a tool. This was a lesson that had been ingrained into the very bones of Sebastian Crow from the moment of his birth. Magic existed to be commanded by those of certain breeding. It did not possess an agency of its own, it was not a living or feeling thing. Any personality contained in certain spells or enchantments were a remnant of the mage who had performed the casting. Therefore, it was best to only perform great acts of magic when one was possessed of a calm mind, emptied of superfluous thought or emotion. This was what Sebastian had always believed. Until he met Asher Lewis.
An urban fantasy, queer romance, set within a magical shop that guards against ancient curses. A tale of self-discovery and finding the strength to stand against corruption.
So this book began it's life as a Final Fantasy story. The one with the guys on the road trip (15?). I can't remember it because I didn't play too much of it the first time I got my hands on it as a rental from a Red Box. I will say that I think that if I had been more invested in that world I might have liked this more. Regardless it's still a very pleasant and sweet read.
I bought this book because the author did one of those Tumblr sponsored ads in the first week that those dropped. And with that being said, that's exactly why I bought it. I like supporting fan fiction writers. I like supporting people who make things for free. I also like supporting fan fiction writers who take a step out of fan fiction in order to share their original works or retooled works. With that being said, this is $5. Go get a copy and leave a positive review on good reads and amazon.
Things I'm reading
Clearly I read a lot of manga/graphic novels/comic books, but really it's just faster, lighter reading. It's easy to pick up and put down., and usually you can find them for free online. This one was in a sale's bin at the store. It was over 75% off so I got it along with some of the other DC comics for an YA audience.
Under the Moon: A Catwoman Tale by
Lauren Myracle, Isaac Goodhart
After reading this one, the Raven one, and the Beast Boy one, I think this one is the best one. I will say that it's not really a Catwoman story in the traditional sense. There's not like jewelry heists or trying to live the fabulous life that you might see in the video games or the street smart one you might see in the Gotham TV show. It's more the inner workings of a girl who runs away from home, learns to take care of herself, and learns to trust people again.
It feels like a good book to have in any school library really for girls who are living in that zone of difficulty where involving child protective services might make everything worse.
Trigger Warnings under the cut
Things I'm reading...
It's been a while since I put anything on here, but I've been off visiting family. So because they aren't really close by, I've had a lot of time to read. So I just finished.
(Sweat and Soap ) by Kintetsu Yamada, 山田金鉄
This is a really sweet series. Depending on where you are you might have a really racing cover. The short version is she's an accountant at a soap company, and he's a fragrance/soap designer. She has a condition that makes her sweat a lot more than average (but not smell, this is an important part of the journey between the two), and because of his super duper sensitive nose, he can kinda see her feelings by her scent. The first volume is by far the strangest, but afterward it because the issues of two people navigating trauma, societal expectations, gender roles, jealousy, and general relationship stuff. If I'm giving any warning, I would say read volume 9 and 10 together because it's pretty heavy.
Adventures in medical
So after some really consistent aches and pains, and never having a primary physician in my life, I bit the bullet and go a doctor. Blood work is starting to come back. There is some issue of cholesterol and triglycerides showing up on the portal. No one from medical has called to explain it all to me. So right now I'm just trying to eat some extra fiber and get some exercise. I gained 20 lbs in the last 6 months so I need to try and work that off.
Does anyone have any advice on this front? A yummy recipe maybe? Anything would help. I'm not trying to do medication as a first step.

I'm working on some low content books on Amazon with KDP. Anyone interested in the videos I used to learn? If you click on the publisher you can see all the other ones I've made. If you buy one, I'll make a whole 25 cents.
Just finished type setting for my $2.00 used copy of LadyHawke that is falling apart. I loved that movie when I was younger. I thought it was just SO romantic. I wish more people knew about it. I also think that at the end of the movie they have a polyamourous relationship that includes Mouse.
I would kill for the Harringrove fandom to pick it up. Steve as Iseabeu and Billy as Navarre--come on. It writes itself. I have no idea who Mouse would be....but I guess Eddie? I haven't finished the season pt 1 yet so I don't know how it goes for Eddie, but people seem to like him.
I'll have some in progress things once I print it. I, sadly, need to buy more ink.
This is the one I listened to when I was trying to figure out how to do the cover correctly for Maurice. I really liked it a lot. If you like horror, you'll like this. I 'watch' (really I just put them on and listen until something exciting happens--all about those musical cues!) horror movies while working at home sometimes. This feels a lot like that. I'm all about the audio drama. The voice work is awesome. I really recommend it. I have three episodes left, and I think I know how it ends, and I am super excited to see if I'm right about the curse.
While working on stitching Maurice together I was listening to this podcast. If you have played Fire Watch it's going to feel a lot like that, but the writer went on record said that the game was an inspiration. It's not finished and it's a little inconsistent to update, but it's nice in the back ground.
R.U.T.H.
Right now I wish Tumblr had a poll feature.
I'm here with my people and we were watching Stranger Things (we all agree each episode is too long and drags), but we each one of us knew a different version of Running Up That Hill, but none of us had heard the original cut (FOR SHAME) in it's entirety. There has been a lot of What the fuck is that reactions.....So....if anyone is out there.... which one do you like best?
Original as a control.

This one took a while to find because they thought it was an R.E.M. song.

I am open to listening to other versions.
So while I finally have the innards and the front under control, clearly the end are something I still struggle with and I didn't bother to do a headband. I don't have the patience for them most of the time. Anyone have any suggestions for doing headbands? Or how to clean up the tucks of the cover.
Media Double Feature
A friend of mine said she didn't like "Latto's Big Energy". I looked at her and couldn't help but laugh because I get excited whenever I hear "the sound" of both of these songs because it takes me a minute to figure out which one it is. That's just me though the openings are VERY different, but it's the rush of OHHHH I love this song...and I feel almost the same level of HELL YES with both songs. I might like Mariah Cary's more just because of Free Guy though. Tiny bit. Because I really wish that Latto had done Bad Bitch Energy instead of Big Dick Energy in the chorus....
I feel like few people post their work in progress part of bookbinding. I always see a lot of people with lovely covers and finished things. I kinda want to document where I was. This is my typeset for my destroyed copy of Maurice. As you can see my copy has generous margins (because I like to take a BUNCH of notes when I read) and it's a longer text. My battered copy is 256 and my home brew here is 335.
Double Media Feature
So if Die Hard, Sirens, and Brooklyn 99 had a baby...it would be this. It is hilarious. A bomb diffuse team on NYE trying to beat a record. It's short, it's great, it's got Jacobi, Loveless, and Eiffel from Wolf 359. I laughed out loud and started talking to the podcast.
So what am I working on while I do this?
I am revitalizing a copy of Maurice I bought from a used book store that fell apart upon opening it. I think the person who originally bought it never read it. It was a really copy glued together size 9 font affair with no margins. Add to this the fact that the book is close to 30 years old....and you can imagine the amount of damage. Maurice one of my favorite books. I think I like it for the reasons that other people like Jane Austen. I don't really care for Jane Austen, but I love the movie adaptations. They're great background noise. Plot wise though I get frustrated because it's still the upper class discarding the lower class (I am looking at you Sense and Sensibility) or supposing to lean into challenging class expectations by doing exactly what is best case scenario (That would be you Pride and Prejudice). The only one I really liked was Lady Susan and really I liked that one because it was SO much like Les Liaisons dangereuses.
Maurice is a favorite because Maurice chooses Alec and Alec chooses him. They really do forsake EVERYTHING for one another. I guess it's like what Pride and Prejudice would be if Darcy really did pick someone beneath him and the story was told from his side....or if any of the men in Sense and Sensibility had actually stood by any of the women they had knocked up or abandoned. It's more romantic to me I guess because it's.....
Yupe it's both of them going full Carly Rae Jepsen.
I've managed to get the thing type set correct, got the page numbers on there and did a few additions for my own sake. The joys of binding means that I can make the book "better."
Really by better I mean more user friendly. I've added a table of contents, and about halfway though an index (I had to redo it twice now, it's hard on the spirit to have SUCH failure), and the update of the global stance of homosexuality for 2022. I'm currently at over 100 hours on this project, but I think it's well worth the time given that legislation I saw take root in Virginia. I worry for the state of minority and queer texts with things like that in the wings, but to be fair I also worry about another Hays Code era given that some of the books tangled up in that lawsuit are straight couples.
This is how these things kind of start....legislation and the law can be dangerous. But maybe I'm paranoid. But...given what Texas and Florida and even Georgia have going on...needless to say I'm cultivating avenues to protect banned/challenged books. We always say it's to protect kids, but it's really about just removing chances to curate empathy I think. It's to casually and quietly make people "weird" or "strange" and in doing so make children grow up believing that those people might be wrong or evil. That's how you teach children hatred.
Now thinking about what I'm doing....I guess Maurice was the right choice to bind and customize. The whole book Maurice is struggling with who he is...
When I'm finished, DM me if you would like a copy of my edition? Anyone interested in my hundred of notes regarding the symbolism that I did when I was proofing my screwed up print outs that @evil-robot-cat had to pep talk me through?
Sometimes while I'm working on type setting or cleaning up the initial draft into something more polished I'll put on something to distract me a little bit. I usually go with a pod cast, but YouTube has just rotated out their free movies. So I found this somewhere in the mess. Clearly I have a weakness for 80s and 90s kids movies. I've never read the book on this one. I want to though.
I have always had a thing for Ewan McGregor since I was young. He's this nice little blend of sweet and sexy. I remember when I saw him in Moulin Rouge and A Life Less Ordinary and I would just watch those over and over again. It wasn't until this year that I saw some gifs of him in Velvet Goldmine (If anyone knows where to watch this please inbox me) and I was under a different kind of spell. It's his eyes and his voice that really send me on my way. Anyway I found this film on YouTube that I hadn't seen before and I thought I would share the link.
Below the cut is a rabbit hole about my relationship with the Obi TV show and Star Wars if you care.
