Today, after over a year of holding on to them, I finally threw away my moving boxes. I started collecting them a month after I moved in to my first place in Boston, which is when I got 90 days notice I would need to move out. Since then, I haven’t lasted a month in one place without knowing I would probably need to move again - so I didn’t bother making myself at home. I figured that something would come up, and I’d save myself the trouble of having to start my move from scratch every time. I’m knocking on every piece of wood in this apartment (which isn’t much), but I really think this is the one. I’ve signed a real lease - the kind I can’t just walk out of, I have a roommate who is a decent human being, and a room where I can’t hear the phone conversations of my neighbors. It feels like the kind of place I could stay a while. And I said this the last time, but I REALLY don’t want to have to move again. So even though it’s been less than a month, I’m calling it now and chucking the boxes out.
