💕 LOVE HEADCANON // All Verses
There is one core rule that can be applied to pretty much everything when it comes to Airachnid; She HAS to be impressed. If she isn’t impressed by something, it’s not going to get anywhere, because she doesn’t view it as being worth her time. This is probably because after millennia of being told that she’s lesser, she’s turned that around and internalized it as ‘oh, society hates me and says these things because i’m actually WAY BETTER than they are and that intimidates them.’ She has a literal Queen complex, and that totally shapes how she interacts with everything and everyone.
This rule of needing to ‘prove yourself’ especially applies to people trying to pursue any kind of relationship with her. Once you understand that she is always watching you for little slip ups, for mistakes in your ‘performance’, you’ll have a way better chance on actually getting on her good side. Of course there’s also the fact that she has unrealistically high expectations from people, so even if someone DID try their hardest, it’s totally possible that their best just... isn’t good enough.
all of that, it’s no surprise that Airachnid has never had much love in her life. She builds up all these walls as a defense mechanism, and it.. works, but it’s also not very healthy. She insists that she’s happier alone, that a Queen works better when her judgement isn’t clouded by outside interferences, but that’s not entirely true. Insecticons are inherently social, and she’s no different. She just needs to get over the terrifying reality that she’s going to need to step down and let someone in finally.
Luckily for her, in one verse, someone danced THEIR dance very well, and actually managed to charm her off that stupid throne of hers. ♡
🏡 HOME HEADCANON // Prime Verse
For most of her pre-war life ( 2 million years or so ), Air lived in Kaon. More specifically, she lived in a burrow that she dug out in the side of one of Kaon’s dozens of canyons. It sat high above the smelting pits below, and was far enough away that she couldn’t hear the constant bustle of construction workers. When you’re public enemy number 1 for the fault of your birth, it kinda pays to be unreachable.
The structure itself was deep and ever changing, with her meticulously carving out intricate winding passages and false ends to dissuade people from investigating. If that wasn’t enough, the passages that came closer to the main cavern where she actually lived tended to be lined with traps or meshsteel webbing. Thankfully, all of these defenses didn’t see too much use, but there was a few instances in which they were literal life savers.
The main cavern was bare bones by most standards. It had a recharge slab that she built over the years, stacks of data pads to teach herself with, and a few cubes of Energon stacked away for an emergency. Other than that, there wasn’t much else, but she didn’t mind. It was safe and quiet, and she could nap for days in her web hammocks if she wanted to, so how could she complain? Home is home.
During the war, her cavern was unfortunately destroyed and paved over like most of Kaon. A bittersweet moment for her, but at that point, she was busy climbing the Decepticon chain of command, so she was a little pre-occupied.
🍬 FAMILY HEADCANON // TFA Verse
Air’s relationship with Insecticons is, like with most things with her, increasingly complicated. She has a persona of being this cold, calculating loner that she fights to keep up, but there’s this fact of her basic programming that is impossible to change; As much as she didn’t want to admit it, she does feel a genuine love and fondness for the creatures. They communicate with her on a very deep, instinctual level, and give her a sense of normalcy and belonging that she doesn’t get anywhere else. At first, she hated it, but she’s grown to appreciate it, and finally fully accept it.
So, knowing that, it’s unsurprising that she has a fierce over protectiveness for the little hive she’s made in her lab. She’s named them, watched them go through every stage of life, nurtured them and taught them everything they needed to know. There is a visible change in her tone and demeanor when she goes from talking to someone else in Team Charr, to when she’s dealing with one of the bugs. It’s extremely jarring, and at first a few of them would crack jokes about it, but that quickly stopped once they had to face the brunt of her mama bear mentality.
If you’re really quiet during down hours, and listen really closely, you can probably hear her chirping at the hive as she tucks them away for recharging.
