‘Woman Cards’ are a hit for a brother-sister duo who denounce Donald Trump’s sexism
“The Woman Cards,” created by Zach and Zebby Wahls, is a 54-count deck of playing cards featuring 15 original hand-drawn portraits of American women who are known around the world, including Hillary Clinton, singer Beyoncé and civil rights icon Rosa Parks. The project started out as an impromptu Kickstarter campaign but swiftly raised an extraordinary amount of funding.

I am BLACK.
I am BLACK. This is a FACT. Please don’t tell me that you don’t see color. I need you to see that I am BLACK. I need you to recognize that there are experiences that I deal with that you will never understand. Every. Single. Day I live in fear that my dad, my mom, my family, my friends – or even I may die if accosted by police. Some will say, “Well if you’re polite, don’t resist, don’t ask questions…you’ll be fine.” But I shouldn’t have to give up my basic right that NO ONE else has to just so I can HOPE I stay alive. I can’t quite understand how some people can massacre a movie theater, shoot a US representative, and murder 9 people at bible study and end up in handcuffs – with the right to a trial. But if you’re selling cds, cigarettes or asking an officer why you’re being pulled over – you deserve to die? It is true that all lives matter BUT we live in a society where we aren’t treated as such. Please don’t give me your opinion or your think pieces on blackness or police brutality. I live in blackness. I love my blackness…. I just wish society did too.

Orlando victim Luis Vielma has been immortalized as a custom wizard figurine
Brandon Anderson, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, designed the figure using Pop!’s online customization tool and plans to give it to Vielma’s friends and family. This kind gesture comes after J.K. Rowling herself offered her support.

Ballerina Misty Copeland, who made history when she became the first black female principal dancer at the American Ballet Theatre last summer, now has her own Barbie doll. The doll wears a costume similar to Copeland’s for her Firebird role.
“My goal has always been to be a principal dancer with ABT,” Copeland told NPR back in 2014. She has accomplished that goal — and in a video about the new doll that was released Monday, she says she played with Barbie dolls until she was 13, the same year she started ballet.

Scott Kelly is two inches taller after 340 days in space
After 340 days on the International Space Station, Scott Kelly grew 2 inches taller than his twin brother who spent the time on Earth, CNBC reports.
Gaining a couple inches is pretty common among astronauts that spend a significant amount of time in space. That’s because the microgravity environment allows room for their vertebrae to expand. Here’s how NASA explains it:
Imagine that the vertebrae in your back form a giant spring. Pushing down on the spring keeps it coiled tightly. When the force is released, the spring stretches out. In the same way, the spine elongates by up to 3% while humans travel in space. There is less gravity pushing down on the vertebrae, so they can stretch out — up to 7.6 centimeters (3 inches).
He aged less than us Earth-bound humans too.

America’s ‘Lead Wars’ Go Beyond Flint, Mich.: 'It’s Now Really Everywhere’
Flint, Mich., isn’t the only American city with a lead problem. Though the health crisis in Flint has highlighted the use of lead in water pipes, author David Rosner tells Fresh Air’s Terry Gross that lead, which is a neurotoxin, can be found throughout the U.S. on walls, in soil and in the air.
“The problem with lead is that it’s now really everywhere, and we’ve created a terribly toxic environment in all sorts of ways,” he says.
Lead is particularly dangerous to young children. In their book, Lead Wars, Rosner and co-author Gerald Markowitz describe the ways in which even small exposures can interfere with a child’s brain development and cause lasting learning challenges.
“It causes IQ loss. It causes behavioral problems. It causes attention deficit disorder, hyperactivity, dyslexia,” Markowitz says.
Rosner adds that even a small amount of lead can have a lasting effect on a child’s health. “As early as the 1910s and 1920s, [doctors] were documenting children who had absorbed lead on their fingers as dust and had put their hands in their mouth and actually began going into convulsions,” he says. “It’s not like you need a lot of it.”
My happy place.

“If you’re a business that needs team players who know how to lead and execute an idea, hire a vet. If you’re a school system that needs dedicated, passionate teachers, hire a veteran. If you’re a non-profit that needs leaders who have been tested and can follow through on a vision, hire a veteran. Every sector, every industry, every community can benefit from the incredible talents of our veterans. They’re ready to serve, and they’ll make you proud.” —President Obama on Veterans Day
