Everglades in southern Florida is the third largest national park in the lower 48 states.

HH: I only had the opportunity to see a small portion of the Everglades. I have to admit, it scared me. I can deal with rattlers, scorpions, Gila Monsters, but because of animals I am not accustomed to like alligators, and other invading animals like boa constrictors, and just a world that was so foreign to this desert dweller, it was somewhat frightening. I found it beautiful, but the humidity with heat is a climate to which I could not adapt to easily, if ever.

Everglades National Park protects an unparalleled landscape that provides important habitat for numerous rare and endangered species like the manatee, American crocodile, and the elusive Florida panther. An international treasure as well - a World Heritage Site, International Biosphere Reserve, a Wetland of International Importance, and a specially protected areas under the Cartagena Treaty.
