It’s amazing what a few small changes can do for your bedroom. I love my apartment, but the bathroom is only accessible through my bedroom, so maintaining a full-time little boy’s room isn’t an option if I want to have friends and family over without exposing my AB side. However, I’ve gotten pretty good at quickly converting back and forth from a boring, nondescript bedroom to a much more colorful one, better suited for a big toddler like myself - I’m never more than 15 minutes away from either setup. These are a few things that help transform the space:

*Wall Decals: An easy and cheap way to quickly create a baby-friendly space, wall decals can also help make any blank surface into a cute photo backdrop. They’re non-permanent, come in tons of designs and are usually reusable, so if you have time to carefully peel them off the wall and stick them onto some waxed paper for the meantime, you can get at least 2 uses out of them. If you’re in a rush, quickly tearing them down is easy, and at $10-15 a pack, they don’t cost much to replace (tip: keep an extra pack with a different design/character on hand, that way you’ll be more excited to put up the new ones than you are sad to take the old ones down!) Plus putting them up is a fun project when in a little mindset. I recommend the ones made by Roommates.

*Diaper Storage Station: If you have extra closet space, consider getting a lightweight plastic storage unit that you can easily move in and out of the room. Having a selection of diapers and changing materials constantly visible and accessible instead of tucked away in a closet or dresser is a sure-fire way to baby-up a bedroom.

*Get Creative With Coverings: Part of my DVD collection sits next to my bed, but they’re mostly serious/mature movies and really detract from any littleness that a cute bedspread and wall decals bring. I solved that by putting clear thumb tacks into the top of the storage shelf and using them to hang a fabric shower curtain over the front, creating a large patterned wall that really transforms the space. For an easy and endlessly reusable way to cover the unsightly grate on the wall, I simply tacked up a large throw pillow cover from a comforter set I already had. Likewise, I used another to cover the top of the table next to my bed.

*Rugs: Easy to fold up and put away, small kids-design rugs are fairly affordable (my Mickey one was about $40) and really make the space more inviting.

Obviously stuffed animals and a cute bedspread are super helpful too, but hopefully you already have those covered if you’re considering going any further. What ways do to make your place more big-baby friendly?

This weekend @lil-toddler and I facilitated a historic trade agreement between Prime Minister Tyrannosaurus and Supreme Emperor Stegosaurus, in what will go down in history as the Nap-Time Peace Accords. Do babies get Nobel Peace Prizes too?
