Horror movie recommendations
Hello my darklings. It’s that wonderful time of the year where Halloween is upon us, and I’ve been watching so many horror movies this month so far, and thought I’d share some that I recommend for you guys. Happy watching. All films are in no particular order.
1) Dolls (1987) - A group of people traveling get caught in a storm, and take shelter in a house owned by an elderly couple who make killer dolls.
2) House on Haunted Hill (1959 and the 1999 remake) - One of my favorite horror movies, House on Haunted Hill is a movie about a group of people who get invited to a house by a millionaire with the promise of a monetary reward if they survive the night in the house.
3) Nosferatu (1929) - A film for old school horror movie lovers, this is one of the most classic vampire movies created
4) The Wicker Man (1973) - A police officer is lured to the island of Summerisle to search for a missing girl, but believes the strange inhabitants of the island know more than they are letting on.
5) The Blair Witch Project (1999) - A group of filmmakers wander into woods rumored to be inhabited by the Blair Witch, and come to find sinister things are indeed in the woods.
6) It Follows (2015) - A young woman finds herself being stalked by a monster after having a sexual encounter with a boy she met
7) Whatever Happened to Baby Jane (1962) - While not technically a horror film, the film Whatever Happened to Baby Jane was definitely an unsettling, harrowing story. A washed up child star lives with her disabled sister, and torments her however she can, while planning her comeback to stardom.
8) Sinister (2012) - A man and his family find themselves haunted by a sinister entity after watching disturbing home videos found in their attic
9) The Orphanage [El Orfanato] (2007) - A woman and her family purchase a closed down orphanage she grew up in, and her young son’s behavior slowly starts changing
10) Ju-On series (2002) - More popularly known as The Grudge, Ju-On is the Japanese version, and is a haunting film series. A house has a powerful curse on it that will kill anybody who enters it, and the story shows different people and their story as they enter the house.
11) Carved: the Slit-Mouthed Woman (2007) - Another Japanese horror film based on an urban legend of a woman who wears a mask to hide her hideously carved face, and carries a large pair of scissors to cut her victim’s mouths into a horrific grin like hers
12) Mr. Sardonicus (1962) - An entertaining horror film about a man whose face has been frozen into a horrific grin, and enlists the help of a doctor to cure his affliction (funny enough, the lead actor in this film was also in the film Dolls)
13) Young Frankenstein (1974) - While obviously a comedy film rather than a horror film, I always watch Young Frankenstein during Halloween time. The film is a hilarious parody of the original Frankenstein, and is an absolute classic, and one of Mel Brooks’ best films ever made.
14) 1408 (2007) - Another favorite horror movie of mine, a writer who visits supposedly haunted locations and debunks them comes to realize true horror does exist as he gets trapped in a haunted hotel room that’s hellbent on killing him
