Early days.
So early that Father Mulcahy isn’t William Christopher.

“Dear Son…
I hate to bother you in the middle of a war, but I have some terrible news. Your father is very sick. If he knew I was writing to you, he’d be very angry. Fortunately for us, he’s in a coma. We know your colonel has a good heart, and surely he’ll let you come home for your father's funeral or his 65th birthday, whichever comes first. I will close this letter now, son of my heart, because my tears are making the paper soggy and hard to write on.
Your loving, aggravated, brokenhearted mother.”
Hawkeye Pierce (Seasons 1 - 11 Caps)
Apparently a new series was dropped today and Alan was in it. I haven't seen it yet but this article will tell you a little about the series (it's called "Horace and Pete" and it was developed by Louis C.K.) and where you can purchase the first (and only available) episode.
This is a great interview of Alan with Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. Alan is promoting “The Seduction of Joe Tynan” and it prompts a lot of really interesting discussion. They mention his commute between Malibu and New Jersey during the first seven years on M*A*S*H, his work on the ERA, and M*A*S*H itself. Alan is a total babe for talking like he does about women’s equality on national TV in 1979.
This is Alan being a cutie and singing/playing the piano plus a cute kiss at the end.
Reasons to watch this interview:
1. Alan is a ham and hugs some audience members when introduced.
2. Alan and chimps. Bae.
3. Alan swears he’s not into bestiality even though he interviews many animals for Scientific American Frontiers.
4. He’s talking about sex and poop and it’s weird and arousing at the same time? This is problematic.
5. Craig’s accent + Alan’s hearing loss = ?
6. Alan is sassy about religion and science
7. His scottish accent is shit omg fantastic.
8. Late night talk that’s out of context?
9. Alan is a sweetheart.
This is one of my favorite interviews of Alan’s. He covers a very wide range of topics, including growing up around show business, how he became “Alan” instead of “Allie”, M*A*S*H and all that meant and still means to him personally, acting in general, and his work in the scientific community.
